QR/UL: CMB-DOH-LAX RT in J $2,434

Pretty good RT fare from CMB to LAX in J (stop in DOH). Flat bed on all segments (A330/B777). CMB-DOH must be on UL (SriLankan) and DOH-LAX must be on Qatar.

Books into fare class I (20% EQD). Not as good a deal as some of the other QR deals from less, uh, hospitable locales. But since CMB is UL's hub, it shouldn't be too tough to position there.

Same deal out of CPT - DOH - LAX

Just booked that, 5000 EQD. This one is 4200 EQD.

Still waiting for something better like SGN-LAX for $750 a few weeks ago, although probably will not happen again or BKK-LAX for $1500 last year.

Seems to be a UL deal. QR is offering interline carriage, but UL set the fare.

Looks that way. The much longer DOH-LAX leg is on QR metal, which is a big selling point IMO. I believe the QR legs ticket as UL codeshares, so the UL earning table applies. Not that it makes much difference with AA. I fares on both QR and UL have the same earn rates with AA.

That said, I was trying to see if I could use other starting points for this fare (still routing through CMB & DOH), but I couldn't get it to work. Fare rules seem to state it's possible, but perhaps not.

Yeah, I saw that one a couple weeks ago. I figured CMB would be somewhat easier/cheaper for positioning flights, due to its location so close to many OW carriers (UL/MH/CX/QR).

I tried to get this deal to work from other locations (HKG/HAN/SGN/BKK/CGK/SIN/etc), but was unable to get it to work.

Pretty nice that SriLankan is operating the A330-300 as far as I can tell everyday on the CMB-DOH route. Would be harder to bite on the fare if you got the A320 for 5 hours.
