Well, that's a quick and comfortable way to fulfill a status challenge to Platinum. Or so it would seem?

Except for the 12 hour PVG layover. But a (relatively) small price to pay

Agreed. For some reason I thought Delta only allowed Delta medal to count for the status challenge, but I just read the fine print and it looks super generous for allowing MQM earning partners to count.

I may have been thinking of AA requiring flights to only be on AA metal for their status challenge. Plus having to pay a fee for the challenge.

Fly from JFK for $2512 for an extra 800 miles or so each way.
Fare is still alive.

Can stopover in PVG for any number of days as well.

Can go to SIN from JFK, have a shorter layover and have proper lie flat all the way there and back for $2515.

I saw a similar fare on LAX-SIN ($2900, LAX-CAN: 7231 in I, CAN-SIN: 1639 in J). Quick question for DL accrual:

Does the MQM end up being 75% * (2*7231) + 2*1639 = 14125 MQM? Or am I missing something?

I calculate 3745 MQD as a result (2*7231*.20 + 2*1639*.26).

This wasn't the case for my AA challenge in 2015 (I don't believe the rules have changed since then). Not all partners are allowed, but BA, IB, and JL metal was, among others.

Makes sense. That vaguely sounds familiar now. I would have needed Qatar to count for it to be worth it for me, so that must of been what was stuck in my memory.

Different airline. China Eastern=MU, China Southern=CZ
Earning on MU are far better.

I'm looking at booking the JFK-SIN to leave on Tuesday this week, and it's coming up at $2515. Amazing fare for such benefits.

UA, at least in 2015, made you fly their metal for challenges....no extra fee.....you had to fly 18,500 for Platinum.....one trip to MNL took care of that! I got upgraded on most of the segments (excluding international) (XXX-ORD-SFO-NRT-GUM-MNL-GUM-HNL-DEN-ORD-XXX (had to spend a night in MNL due to typhoon crossing GUM on return - exhilarating cab ride from airport.....think Fast & the Furious....lol).

Got Platinum for $1247.00!

Quick question - if I want to book this with a 3 day layover in Shanghai on either side, is that possible?

If so, how do I go about doing it?

Thank you so much!

I used this last year to ge to Platinum quick the hard way: Here is the deal:

The $2500 fare will get you almost anywhere for around that amount and its widely available.

DL MQM's and Medallion bonuses are generous in Premium Cabins on tier 1 airlines.

HOWEVER

This airline is the pits. I know it looks great: Trip to Asia in Business AND status! AWESOME!!!! Not so much
- Seats are nice since they are reverse Herringbone, but Pilots smoke the whole way and the whole plane smells like an ash tray for 14 hour over the Pacific. Just WAIT until the 737 for the intra asia!!! It smelt like I was holding my nose in the Ash tray

-Food is inedible, completely inedible. If you eat the food, you will probably not be happy after. BYODinner
-PVG is a dump and a half. I think its a newer terminal and its gross. And i ate a Hagen Daz ice cream bar (It was $12) The MU lounge is actually decent but same problem with the food.
-Service on board is pitiful. You will not be cared for well, especially if you are a westerner.
-Wifi - ITs there... but its almost too slow to work
-AVOD - not many choices.

So great fare! Absolutely junk of an airline. So sad since the actual aircraft are decent. You'll be able to stretch out but bring a mask and your own snacks.
