For those interested, you can also do RTM-LCY-JFK-ORY on BA1 and OpenSkies.

Curious as to what is this BA1 stuff? I know it's BA flight 1, but why is it so special?

Various reasons
  • BA001 heritage, the Concorde flight number
  • All business Airbus A318
  • Fuelstop in SNN outbound where you also pass US immigration, possibly saving hours in JFK
  • Flight out of LCY

A318 all business aircraft. Pre-clearance as it flies via SNN. Generally considered to be the best BA business class service in the sky. 2+2 seating. I would have a look at the BA forum here or search for a trip report.

Is SNN pre-clearance available every day of the week? Even on fridays and sundays with BA1 arriving at SNN at 2pm? Thanks.

If I book BA1 do I get 140 TP for the outbound or 140+40 because the LCY to Shannon earns an extra 40TP?

Just 140TP for the whole journey, the LCY>SNN sector is purely for fuel (with immigration pre-clearance an added benefit), no pax can leave or join the aircraft at SNN so it's not a sector in its own right. (Obviously people can refuse to fly the onward transatlantic bit, but it's not a optional thing).

You can neither leave nor join the flight at SNN. The flight is sold only as LCY-JFK. SNN is just a technical stop. You buy the flight as LCY-JFK; you only get Avios and Tier Points for LCY-JFK.

BA1 is a direct flight. (Note the difference between "direct" and "non-stop").

Contrast this with BA15 which can be bought as LHR-SIN, as SIN-SYD, or as LHR-SYD (each of these being direct flights with their own associated Avios/Tier Points totals).

This morning I saved some itineraries in google flights with the intention to book something this evening. Checked again a few moments ago and price more than doubled. Looks like it's gone

Another classical case of "If you snoose - you looooose"

But there will be other deals coming
