It is widely accepted that this Mileage Run Deals spot is watched by many in the industry - blogs, airlines, hotels, ... why risk it? I suppose it comes down to intuitively knowing what fares are at risk for shutdown vs what fares are perfectly normal.
This fare isn't that special in terms of price. I did SNA-LIR in F/J a couple years ago for $545. The addition of all the US hubs and connection policies means you can bounce around more now.

If you're crediting AA and have status, there is still some benefit to that many short segments, even if you're not trying to rack up the EQS: your base miles on each segment becomes 500. mia-mco-clt-rdu-dca gets you 2000, whereas mia-dca direct is 920.

290 o/w, 580 rt

I appreciate with the fare gone it is a moot point, however would like to get it right next time.

Calculators are down in the US region it says on qantas.com.
But following their chart, I get 280 one way.

3x sub 250 at 20 each
2x at sub 500 at 40 each
1x at 750-1500 at 60
1x at 1500-2500 at 80.

These are all business on the chart.

Should be enough with the ICN-JFK F fare (and four BA segments intra-Europe) to get me BA gold. Managed to pull it off with one overnight on the outbound (PHL) and two on the return (MCO, although thankfully the eight-hour overnight and not the brutal five-hour one, and LAS, which will be my destination)
This makes my head hurt. Its possibly the most roundabout way to go from Los Angeles to Las Vegas that I have ever heard, given that it's a 4 hour drive

I'd rather fly this routing than drive from LA to Vegas on a Friday night and I'm not even exaggerating.

Sub 750 mile intra-USA J flights are 30SC.

You can probably get to LIR with this routing before you get to LAS by driving on a Fri night.

Because the fare lost a lot of its appeal when the max 2 transfers was introduced

I can price up something like LAX-LAS-PHX-MCO-MIA-LIR / LIR-MIA-LAX for around £690 although PHX-MCO might be <2000 miles so us BAers will take a hit on tier points here.

Can you not go PHX - PHL or to FLL?

Possibly. Just spent a couple of minutes with Google flights and that's what it gave me. Sometimes the next identical search yields different results.
At least it shows there is some flexibility with the 2 stops.
