Anyone positioning from or through Europe you can fly First on the MH A380, which is supposed to be great, would you jump on that? Anyone nervous flying MH long haul, with their two recent 777 losses? They also have financial problems and likely some management problems and there is some terrorism risk in the country.
Is anyone avoiding the MH sectors?

Neither crash was directly the fault of MH.
Terrorism risk is world wide. And so are financial problems.

Easy to book KA flight that is nonstop PEN-HKG and flies twice daily, if you really are deadset against MH. If you book on AA.com just do segment by segment search, make sure to check nonstop and the dragon air flights should come up.
I re-read the fare rules and it's one of those fares that does allow changing other than first segment without fee or recalculation. So if you booked a 23 hour stopover in HKG like I did, and wife barfs on the idea, it should be easy to change to tighter connections. Key is to make no change to first segment. But it's sure easy to find J availability for five ;-)
I'm still on the fence about my booking. It's to replace five awards that routed back from Asia to SEA through Chicago, and it was a bit less direct than we wanted. And while this routing is much more direct home, it does involve getting from REP to PEN at the end of our trip in Asia ( which I now see involves routing through Kuala Lumpur). It also raises the question of whether I can make any use of 275k miles we would be returning back to advantage account, with the March 22 devaluation rapidly approaching.

I don't know your timeframe, but AirAsia typically has very nicely priced one-ways from REP to PEN via KUL (~ USD 50 all-in). During our one-and-only visit to Penang, we really enjoyed the Seven Terraces hotel in George Town (and had a very nice dinner in their Kebaya restaurant).

I flew MH multiple times, internationally and within Malaysia, late last year and can only say that it is a very average airline so I don't understand how it got 5 stars Skytrax rating before the MH 370 incident. CX/KA to me, offers much superior regional business class products than MH.

More people die every day in America before breakfast from gun violence than died I the 2 MH777's combined.
Neither crash was directly the fault of MH.

The tsunami comment is also kinda of silly, there is only some piracy at the Strait of Malacca, but no different from what can happen to you in a Hudson river cruise (before breakfast).

Good to know about the likely no change fee after departure, that could come handy.
As for your dilemma, there will still be life for AA miles even after devaluation, you don't have to spend everything now, you can still spend miles later for reasonably good redemptions like J awards Europe-India, and J to Europe and S.America 1&2.

Hi guys,
this is a fully-refundable fare (both in J and F), right? Also, in terms of elite status qualification, with the new AA program how far will this fare take me? I am pondering buying this vs using miles.
thanks!

Used AA multicity tool, with setting set to "AA and partners".
