Exactly, shouldn't these be the prices for two? How do you get them to come up under the BOGO sale?

this is the second "sale" this year for QR. they just had their global seat sale in january. unless they lower their prices to last year's level or even better, we can expect to see these "sale " prices come up very often

travel originating from asia seems to be excluded.

If you start an itinerary in either bkk or hkt then on to Europe and then back to Australia, you actually get a half-half combination fare that's half, for example BKK - ROM rt and half ROM-SYD rt (as opposed to half SYD - ROM).
Makes it pretty cheap.
As long as you get I class on all legs the above comes in under AU$2.5k pp.

There are definitely dates for CMB to ORD for about US$1500 but you need to stick a stopover in DOH. As an example, try 24 feb CMB to DOH, 27 feb DOH to ORD and 10 mar ORD to CMB.
Looks like CMB to ORD in one go doesn't agree with their yield mangement systems.
The stopover adds a $200 surcharge and some extra taxes as well. If you could find availability with a transit <24 hours it would cost about US$1275 pp all in.

Please can you explain again. I didn't get it. Did you mean half as in. One way bkk-rom-syd or multicity it? How would the route be constructed

Not a good sale, for those departing from Canada. $10000 total for 2.
