Bookable on .bomb for ~3000 CAD i.e. $2,200 USD. Books into P (with a non-earning I dragonair codeshare HKG-PVG). Many dates work and price similarly.

Exactly my thoughts. Thread should be renamed. I keep falling into the trap every time looking here because I am searching for a HKG fare. Please rename YVR-PVG!

I'm looking at UA via SFO one way and return via AC direct on Feb 12 to Feb 17.
What's changed is the pricing...it's about USD$2500 now. YVR to PVG is more expensive, actually.

Successfully Booked
I am still seeing a lot of availability. I booked the following for late April: I started with a YVR->HKG base fare and then added a stop over in Beijing. Did a lot of combos, but ultimately decided on the following:
YVR-> PEK (open) 4/20
PVG->HKG 4/28
HKG-YVR 5/1
$2180 ai
Had to play with a lot of different combos, but ultimately found something. Found on google flights, when I tried to book, took me to the Canadian UA website. Was unable to change to USA. Ultimately kept it on the Canadian site and choose Pay by cash option/pay at the ticket counter, to force a reservation code. Then called UA to pay for it.

Direct going, stop in SFO going back which works for me because I live near SFO. Did a cheap one-way to YVR (~$100) going out.
Yeah, I will need a visa because I'm not flying in and out of the same port. My understanding is if you fly in and out of the same airport you have 72-hours visa free (144 hours if you're flying into/out of PVG). Wasn't worth it to me, so did the open jaw instead. BTW, I believe if you're going to HKG that counts a separate country, so its not counted in the visa-free time limit. FYI books in P class, except the Cathay flight which books in I

FYI, I was able to book other options like YVR-PVG-HKG-YVR. Not sure what its looking like now, and it was a pain to actually ticket it because google flights links to the UA canadian site. Also I was able to find a HGK-YVR direct, but I wanted the stop in SFO specifically because I live near SFO
