LAX-JFK TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS:
LOUNGE ACCESS:
Recent fare rule inclusions now prevent any routing via JFK on the non-stop transcontinental A321T aircraft. Any future booking will demand a significantly higher fare to route on the non-stops via JFK. Unless the fare rules are modified and these clauses are removed (highly doubtful), the ability to fly on the transcons via JFK is a thing of the past.

LAX AIRPORT
= When trying to gain oneworld J / QF F access based on status, it is simply departing/connecting/arriving at any point on same ticket to and from an eligible international destination. UIO is eligible and not excluded regardless of length.
= When trying to gain oneworld J / QF F access based on class of service disregarding status, it is the international long haul clause that applies. Therefore, no "oneworld/QF lounge" access for non-elites for trips to and from UIO unless booking transcons since UIO is under 5 hours. BUT AA doesn't enforce this in their own lounges so Admirals Club access is expected.
AA GOLDs(RUBYs)/NON-ELITES
Admirals Club access is granted regardless of routing as AA does not enforce international long haul rule. However, the oneworld J lounge does for Golds(rubys)/non-elites as they are aware the UIO flights are under 5 hours. Booking transcon flights in J/F gains access to the OWJ/QFF lounges.
<Transcon 3-class (JFK/MIA) in F = Admirals + Flagship + LAX oneworld J lounge + QF F Lounge LAX>
<Transcon 3-class (JFK/MIA) in J = Admirals + LAX oneworld J lounge>
<Non-Transcon F (2-class) + UIO = Technically NONE (UIO under 5 hours therefore class of service rule applies) BUT AA still opens Admirals Club doors to all customers because they dont enforce the long-haul rule>
AA PLATINUMs
Platinums gain access to all AC/Business lounges regardless of routing due to flying to and from UIO. They gain access to First/Flagship lounges when traveling in F 3-class transcon

AA EXPs
EXPs have access to all lounges at all airports regardless of routing so long as they are traveling to and from UIO on the same itinerary (an international destination neither excluded from AA's list of ineligible regions nor limited by the flight length rule)

If we were really that hardcore would we be discussing this in "Premium Fare Deal' forum?

I'm doing this run from LAX on May 6. I'm going to try to do same day change to get into quito in afternoon instead of at night to see little bit of the city. Before I was going for better planes and little longer lounge time at MIA but hearing so many equipment changes to older 767, it might be better to check out a new city instead of airport walls. For those who have done this run already, how is the lounge? Do they enforce the 3 hour maximum rule like alot of the asian priority pass lounges? If I get in at night, planning on spending the night at lounge instead of going into town.

Just booked this for Dec 9-12, with the return through JFK. $814 ai. Seems there are still dates available through the fall/winter. Has anyone who's done this had the 11pm arrival and gone into the city via cab? I'm going with a friend, and we're both women. Any advice on safety, places to see/avoid, etc? Thinking of staying at the Sheraton.

Hard to think it's booked into full fare, if discounted First , it's double miles, just like discounted Business.
Cabin Purchased fares booked in**.............EQMs per mile flown***
Full Fare First/Business F, J..................................3.00
Discount First/Business A, P, D, I, R.......................2.00

No becasue it is a discounted business/first fare but more importantly is earning 21,408 EQM. someone can from no status to Executive Platinum for as little as $4,300 and 10 days traveling based on the above mentioned fare.

It's by far the nicest Sheraton I've seen. Definitely worth staying at. I'm SPG gold and was upgraded both times and given access to club lounge via my SPG Amex Bussiness card. Lounge is pretty good for breakfast and dinner. There's also a good restaurant in the hotel as well as plenty of restaurants in the area. I had about 36 hours each time and lot of sleep to catch up on, but I did lot of walking around the Sheraton area, there's a big park nearby that locals enjoy during the weekend. Cool people watching spot. I took a cable car called Teleferico to the top of the mountain. Amazing views of the city and you can do a little hiking up top, or a lot of hiking if you want to. Just remember that you'll be in a pretty thin air. You'll most likely feel the altitude even in the city, so going to 13000 plus feet is not gonna make breathing any easier. It can get pretty cold too. This was a highlight of Quito for me though, and I'm not particularly outdoorsy.
Old town is pretty cool too. I took a cab from Teleferico to old town. From old town you can walk to pretty impressive cathedral too.
Plaza Foch is also worth strolling around. Lots of bars and restaurants.
As for safety I think you're absolutely fine in all main areas during the day. People recommend sticking to cabs at night. Which I guess does make sense, but I did not feel unsafe at any point. I also live in NYC, so other people's threshold my be different. You do see lot of heavy armed security guys by banks, shopping malls, hospital etc. I assume they are there for a reason....
But again, I did not notice anything that would make me pause, or make me worry.
Enjoy your trip!

When booking on AA's website, should I list the Program as AAdvantage or BA (as I collect miles via BA Chase card)? I haven't flown AA or BA in many years.
Lounge Access: As I read the AA website I'd have access to the Admirals Club in NYC after the LAX-JFK leg (is access allowed in LAX as well?) but I'm not clear about Miami due to the exclusions and flight length rules.
I cannot seem to make the JFK-LAX leg work without the price increasing to ~$1,500 when using the AA website and, of course, Google Flights only allows 5 legs. When pricing that leg separately it runs $400+

Using Google Flights for this itinerary should only require 4 legs: LAX-JFK, JFK-UIU, UIO-JFK, JFK-LAX
I would use the AA number if this is a status run, but the BA experts will weigh in on how it would impact BA status.
You should have access to the LAX AC since you're flying in business class. Oneworld in TBIT may require Platinum status or better. If you're not Plat, consider an AA Plat challenge as you'd qualify after this run. You should also have access in MIA.

Your lounge access will depend on your AA or BA status, and what class your flights will be in. I'm guessing "none" on the status. MIA-UIO is apparently under the 5 hours needed for Business or First to help you there. B or F on LAX-JFK would get you access, and the rules don't say you're limited to those two, so MIA might then be available as well.
Best place to get answers on these questions would be the Lounge Access thread.
