Controlled substances Rxs and flying?

I just thought of something that would affect people who take schedule II controlled substances (CII) such as Ritalin and Oxycontin: Can you even get a duplicate "copy only" Rx slip for it?

I take generic Adderall (amphetamine salts) 2x/day, which requires the physican to use a different type of security slip for it. I highly doubt docs all around the US and UK can just write "copy - not for dispensing purpose" on it just so we take our drugs while flying? The risk of abuse would be too high.

You're supposed to carry the original packaging from the dispensing pharmacy, which presumably has your name on it. I routinely remove prescriptions from their original packaging, so I may have a problem. I carry an inhaler for asthma. Would that be banned? (The little metal cylinder seems to have liquid inside, although it is dispensed as an aerosol.) It's expensive, too. I'm not going to let TSA take away essential medicine for no reason. What utter nonsense all this is!

Yes. There are two reports over on the women's forum of inhalers being confiscated. Be sure to keep the box.

I went through security and a separate gate check at Sydney and security at LAX with an inhaler and had no problem. I suspect some of these things are hit and miss until it coalesces a little.

If you are carrying Oxycontin or Viagra, especially aboard a Learjet from the Dominican Republic, be sure that the Rx has your name on it and not your rush-shopped-doctor.

Of *course* I always carry my Rx of Adderall in the bottle -- there would be no reason not to.

I posed my original question because of several reports here today that even when meds are presented in their original bottle, demands by the TSA for a copy of the script in addition have lead to heated checkpoint discussions.

I'll keep your excellent advice in mind, HeHateY. *g*
