Getting compensated for lost baggage can be burden

Miami Herald Article

"Frequent business traveler Rozeta Rad freaked out. Her suitcase was unlocked and intact when she checked it onto an American Airlines flight departing Montreal. After her arrival at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the suitcase popped onto a baggage-claim carousel with a gaping hole in its side, contents spilling out.

So many seams had ripped on one side of the textile-covered suitcase that ''two-thirds of it was actually lifted open,'' said Rad, director of the Hollywood Office of Tourism, a department of the city's chamber of commerce. ``It's open, and there are things falling out of it. That was the worst part.''

The second worst was trying to claim compensation for her ripped suitcase."
