The aviation security enhancements will include requiring that all personal electronic devices larger than a cell phone or smart phone be placed in checked baggage at 10 airports where flights are departing for the United States.
These enhancements apply to 10 specific airports. The affected overseas airports are: Queen Alia International Airport (AMM), Cairo International Airport (CAI), Ataturk International Airport (IST), King Abdul-Aziz International Airport (JED), King Khalid International Airport (RUH), Kuwait International Airport (KWI), Mohammed V Airport (CMN), Hamad International Airport (DOH), Dubai International Airport (DXB), and Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH).
There is no impact on domestic flights in the United States or flights departing the United States. Electronic devices will continue to be allowed on all flights originating in the United States.

Emirates customers travelling to the US via Dubai will be able to utilise their laptops and tablet devices on the first part of their journeys, and also during transit in Dubai. They must then declare and hand over their laptops, tablets, and other banned electronic devices to security staff at the gate just before boarding their US-bound flight. The devices will be carefully packed into boxes, loaded into the aircraft hold, and returned to the customer at their US destination. There will not be any charge for this service.
Passengers on US-bound flights starting their journeys in Dubai are encouraged to pack their electronic devices into their check-in luggage in the first instance, to avoid delays.
Customers should be aware that there will be a detailed search of all hand baggage on non-stop flights to the US from Dubai. They should therefore declare their devices before the search, or ensure their electronic devices are packed into their check-in luggage in the first instance.

I think that must have been translated without sufficient proof reading, because I can't understand it. It says that the electronics must be checked at the point of origin, not in Abu Dhabi, if the passenger is continuing to US. But it doesn't say anything about how that will be determined, handled, etc. Regarding the return of devices which are gate-checked, it does seem to say that those will be returned in the jetway on arrival, although it doesn't actually say that.
Mobile phones and medical devices are permitted but larger items including laptops, tablets, cameras and e-readers will need to be placed into baggage that is checked-in. This must be done at the start of any US-bound journey, which may not necessarily be at Abu Dhabi Airport. The ban does not affect flights leaving from the US towards Abu Dhabi and beyond.

Not a good thing for customers whose battery has problems or devices being transported home for repair or data recovery prior to disposal.
EY's electronic devices to US, UK and Canada policy:

Medical devices are also permitted; however larger items such as laptops, tablets, cameras and e-readers must be placed into checked-in baggage at the point of origin, which may not necessarily be at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The new rules come into effect for US-bound flights departing Abu Dhabi as of 25th March, 2017.
If you are travelling to the UK or Canada, please fully charge all your electronic devices prior to checking-in for your flight. You may be asked to switch them on for security inspection. In case your laptop, tablet, e-reader, camera or other device cannot be switched on, you will be asked to dispose off the item or you may be denied access to your flight.
The airline says AUH has no facilities to store these devices that are denied transport.
The EY policy on spare batteries may be a real turn off, especially given what it can mean: confiscation/loss of device and/or batteries.

Why not just go to the English site here?

Must be done at the check-in counter? Will be enforced on the jet bridge by looking at ALL of the boarding passes for all of the flights you are taking? If you get to the jet bridge will it be delivered to you in Abu Dhabi and then you check it in again on the next jet bridge? Or will it still be returned on the jet bridge in US? Or will it be sent onto the baggage conveyor loose?
I would imagine you will be asked at origin to surrender them. It would be relatively simple to say 'don't have any'. Use them on first flight and lounge... then surrender at US security at Abu Dhabi.

That was how I understood it as well. EMIRATES came out with a similar plan first and it's nice to know, let hope the option is seemless and doesn't end up leading to boarding delays and a nightmare at the gate.

This has probably been answered already but I couldn't find anything in this thread or on the web: does the ban apply to noise-cancelling headsets?
I don't think it does, but has anyone who travelled in the last few days noticed anything about this?

I read in another thread- (on hand report of trip) that headphones are being taken as an electronic bigger than a cell phone. Since I listen to music stored on my phone assume I will have to carry ear bud type or be without use since airline headphones not compatible.
personal comment: All over the ear headphones are bigger than a cell and I hate ear buds.

It doesn't apply to the UK ban. So you could fly via say LHR to go from all of countries to the US and it would be allowed, even on the UK-US journey that originated in a blacklisted country like Turkey. Just make sure they can be powered on.

One item that isn't being mentioned and I'm surprised it hasn't been up on social media is that bags on these flights are subject to additional inbound screening before allowed into arrivals hall. This is being done daily on a random selection basis.
Has anyone who's flown with the announced carriers notice a delay on receiving your checked bags?
