Where will i need to clear customs (YUL-ATL-MEX-MZT)

Where will i need to clear customs (YUL-ATL-MEX-MZT)
Travelling to Mazatlan from YUL and can't find out for sure when i'll need to pickup my luggage to clear customs.
I'm sure I'll clear US customs in YUL, but will I need to pickup my bags in ATL? I'd be surprised to clear Mexican customs in Atlanta, therefore is it in MEX that I'll need to grab my bags?
I'd love to read someone simply telling me that I don't need to worry about customs/bags until MZT.
What about the return portion? US customs in Atlanta and Canadian customs in YUL?

You will go through US Customs and security screening in YUL, so your flight should be treated like a domestic flight to Atlanta, the same as if you were arriving from New York.
You almost always clear customs at the first port of entry in the country, so unless there is a bizarre exception, you will have to clear customs in MEX and deal with your luggage there.
