Hello folks,

Since I can't work out how to edit a wiki post, or if it's even possible for me to do that, I just wanted to say that AGP (Malaga) has NO WBI of any kind, it's WTMD only. Somebody who can, might want to add that to the wiki post.

Unhappy Still in action?

I've read several recent articles saying that backscatter and "<whole body scanner>" have been taken out of service. I haven't flown for a while...is this true? I'll be flying out of DSM and LAX. I'm concerned about this and am confused since this thread sounds like there are still machines in use...?

I'm concerned about this and am confused since this thread sounds like there are still machines in use...?
The TSA has removed the X-ray "backscatter" machines from US airports, so they are gone.

The TSA has said it's switched all the MMW machines over to the "generic GUMBY" images and that its "people" are not viewing nude images of passengers any more. However, there are many who believe these machines are still capable to storing such images for later viewing.

I personally do not trust the TSA as a defender of my rights, so I refuse to enter any of its "machines" other than the WTMD.

Yes, they have, but MMW is increasing. Especially here in Europe, where the ATD feature has prevented any legal disputes over them.

I am well aware of it. BSL & ZRH has no MMW. They don't have it either, but not every EU airports who does not want to install MMW. Some EU & UK airport that does have it.

You most certainly won't get arrested for refusing to go through a scanner in Germany. They're not in the business of arresting people for no reason.

AA (I imagine because of pressure from DHS) is insisting on these procedures - just like they insist on employing those useless people who ask you questions like "did you pack your luggage yourself". AA is paying for this, and they can certainly come up with their own rules that passengers have to follow in order to fly. Other US carriers are doing the same. Germany is not paying for nor deploying scanners.

Last week in AMS, flight to PEK, gate F5 equipped with full body scan for ALL passengers. I didn't see anybody opting out and also flight crew had to go through the machines. Given the situation, I didn't even bother asking if opt out was possible.

BKK transit security at D has <whole body scanner>, while transit security at F (just across the hallway) does not.

Well actually, there has been a multi year project at COS to expand security threshold and reinforce floor and power so that <whole body scanner> can be supported.

Trick or treat came early to COS. <whole body scanner> is here. Wikipost updated.

I think, given the choice, very few EU airports would have <whole body scanner>, but because of pressure from the USA, they are doing it anyway. So far, I have seen scanners at: LHR & LGW north, and there is a lot more. At LGW/LHR about 1/30 passengers are scanned. At LGW south, that's about 1/10. None at my other frequent airport, AGP.

Disappointed to see a <whole body scanner> added to the AA/US checkpoint at MCI. It was roped off, so not sure how often it'll be used.

Was surprised to see the device all scratched up. Perhaps it came from another airport..

As of sometime in the last week, the lower level checkpoint at JFK T4 now has 2x <whole body scanner>. (This checkpoint was previously <whole body scanner> free.) The left lane is WTMD only, but I suspect this will not be open normally, or will be for some Pre-Check like usage.

Airside transfer is now possible T4-T5 at LAX with the reopening of that tunnel in late October. Combined with existing tunnels/connectors, the entire south side terminal complex (T4-5-6-7-8) can now be traversed airside.
