My 16 year old is flying out of JFK to Aruba in a little over 2 weeks. She is going with her best friend and her BF parents. I will not be there to protect her. If this was a family vacation, I think I might cancel it.

Forget the radiation, or the fact that the Xrays can possibly be downloaded....I just can't seem to get past the fact that some schmoe is going to be looking at my daughter naked, or groping her. These two girls are very pretty and that is just not me speaking as her Mom. If anyone would be flagged, it would be them.

They are flying JetBlue and according to the the list of airlines, it says there are no scanners. Is that an updated list? Is there more than one entrance? I am not familiar with that terminal.

Any info will be helpful.

Incorrect. We use MMW at SFO, not the Backscatter. Here's a pic of the Backscatter:

And what we use at SFO, the MMW:

Nnnn-nice!
The real problem is that our "followership" is misguided. We (the flying public) shouldn't be accepting that the only choices are ionizing radiation (not good for Breast Cancer patients) or a sexual assault.

The government wastes billions on "Security theatre" which causes our grandchildren or grandparents to be X-rayed and groped or assaulted on a massive scale. Call your airlines and let them know:
  • You'll be flying less
  • You expect them to convey your displeasure to Congress

FDA still hasn't responded to the point-by-point UCSF memo about concentrated X-ray energy in the top layers of skin, where it can have mutagenic effects on blood and skin cells. This is a different style of exposure than the cosmic rays we that are part of normal background radiation. We'll know in 20 years what the long term effects are, when increase levels of cataracts or skin and blood cancers are showing up in the populations that were exposed.

I choose not to be a guinea pig.

I've seen this story before, during the Cold War. The zeal to build nuclear weapons resulted in contamination and abuses at Fernald, Rocky Flats, Cincinnati General Hospital (Dr. Saenger's experiments), and Hanford, Washington.

Friday morning, T3, I went through the Priority Access security, near the E ticket counter. 2 backscatter, both in use. 2 women and 1 man opted out while I was there (I was not picked for the scanner, guess I'm not a cutie ), and to their credit, none of the TSA folks yelled or in any way singled out those who opted out.

Can we create a separate sticky or thread with reports from the airports that use the NoS, and keep this thread just to the list of airports with the scanners?

That is the reason the NoS opt-out stories thread exists

LAS T1 to D gates - MMW but not in use

Today Nov.20 about 1 pm went trough security check in LAS, T1, to D gates, 1-st class lane. As far as I could see all lanes had MMW installed but none of them seemed to be in use, just old good metal detectors. I was not groped. At this time airport was not overcrowded and security checks went very quickly.

The Backscatter machine is up and running at LGA terminal D when I went through it. The 1st lane from the right feeds into it. Avoid it by going to another lane.

JFK??---does anyone know the arrangement/situation at JFK term 8 for AA? Do they still have aisles without these machines? Is there a way to try to avoid them or are all lines at security being channelled through these machines? Thanks for any info...

confirm that the NoS was not operational this morning. Everyone is still going through WTMD, did not see ANY patdowns when I went through a little after 5AM this morning.

The NoS is presently situated closest to the right x-ray screening line while the WTMD is centerish, closer to the left belt. At least as of this morning, you could still self-select the lines. There is not an Elite line in Term A.

As to the Termalink, I am not sure how early it starts functioning. The last time I had an early flight ex-Term A, it was down for service prior to 5AM. Would really suck to come in through C or E and then not be able to use it to get to A for a 6AM flight...

I read that AMS and ATL both have the scanners, but do you think it is likely I will pass through them?

NCL-AMS-ATL-ROA
KLM-KLM-Delta

I last went through AMS to USA last christmas (about a week before the christmas day bomber), so I am thinking things have maybe changed.

I am 17 and I don't feel comfortable doing this yet. What do you think I will experience?

I was there on the 18th and none of them were in use then as well. It appeared only 3 of the lanes had them not including the lane closest to the first class line.

There's a separate thread in the forum on JFK T8. Backscatter X-ray machines are being installed across all lanes of the checkpoint. However, they were not in use, for primary screening at least, as of Friday.
