US Airports using the NoS

ABQ - Alternating WTMD/NoS. Left side goes to WTMD & Right side goes to MMW. Easy to self-select!

AGS - MMW installed at the only checkpoint. SDOO seems unlikely

ALB - Three MMW installed; Crew directed to WTMD, pax directed to MMW.

ATL
  • Domestic (Terminal South and Terminal North)
  • North Checkpoint: Lane 6, 5/4, 3/2 MMW & WTMD; Lane 1 WTMD only (military/employee line). Elite/premium line on left.
  • South Checkpoint: Lane 4, 3/2 MMW & WTMD; Lane 1 Pre-Check
  • Main Checkpoint: MMW in lanes 1-4, 12-15, and 21-22. Lanes 5-11 and 16-20 are WTMD-only. Easy to SDOO.

    International (Maynard H. Jackson Jr. Int'l Terminal)
  • Concourse F Main Checkpoint: MMW in all lanes.
  • Concourse F (After Customs): MMW in all lanes.
  • Concourse E (After Customs): 4 MMW installed. Most lanes feed a MMW, but there are 2 WTMD-only lanes.

ATW - MMW installed at the sole checkpoint.

AUS - All three C/Ps have MMW. When the C/P is busy, possibility of using WTMD, though it's not guaranteed.

BGR - MMW **More Information Requested, please click here to PM

BDL - BKSX installed in ALL lanes at the C/P. Occasionally roped-off

BIL - MMW installed at the checkpoint. WTMD normally roped-off.

BIS - Receiving devices within the next year

BNA - MMW installed in all lanes. Occasionally roped-off. C C/P has 4 MMW installed

BOI - Two BKSX @ entrance to B/C gates

BOS
Terminal A
  • (AS/UA/DL): Backscatter installed in all lanes. This checkpoint has a Pre-Check line.

Terminal B
  • AC Checkpoint: WTMD-only
  • US Checkpoint: WTMD/MMW pair on the left, WTMD-only lane on the right
  • US Shuttle Checkpoint: WTMD-only lane on the left, WTMD/MMW pair on the right
  • AA Checkpoint: MMW in all lanes.
  • VX Checkpoint: WTMD-only

Terminal C (B6/SY/UA/UX/SY/9K)
  • Gates C11-C36: 5 WTMD/BKSX pairs, WTMD-only lane on the right
  • Gates C40-C42: 1 WTMD/BKSX pair.

Terminal E (FL/WN & All Int'l Airlines)
  • Gates E1A-E1E (FL/WN only): BKSX installed
  • Gates E2A-E8B: Left pair of lanes WTMD-only; center and right lane pairs WTMD/BKSX

  • Concourse A Checkpoint Two MMWs are in use. This checkpoint can be used to access Concourse A, B, & C
  • Terminal East Checkpoint (Near F9 counters) Four MMW in use. MMW is often primary, although far left/right lanes are WTMD only and open when busy.
  • Terminal West Checkpoint (Near UA counters) Four MMW in use. MMW is often primary, although far left/right lanes are WTMD only and open when busy.

DFW - MMW in use @ ALL D C/Ps - Installed @ A12, A21, A24, A36, B9 C8, C21, C31, E8, E33 (left/main lane) A12, B19, B33, C31, Safe - E15, E16, A23 WTMD ONLY!

DTW
  • AA/CO/LH/UA/US/WM) North Term. has two checkpoints (North & South). Both have a WTMD and MMW scanner for each pair of bag x-ray lanes.
  • DL (McNamara Terminal) Currently using MMW
  • Westin C/P Currently using MMW. ALL INCOMING INTL passengers have to go through this checkpoint

DSM - MMW installed

ECP - MMW installed

ELM - MMW Installed

ELP - Screening clerks were forcing pax to use the NoS over the summer. According to Blogdad Bob, all pax can opt-out. YMMV. - BKSX

EWR - MMW installed airport wide

EYW - One backscatter installed at the only checkpoint. If in use, only option will be to opt-out.

FAR - Receiving devices within the next year

FAT - MMW installed. WTMD is still installed, but TSA may alternate between WTMD & MMW. YMMV!

FLL - BKSX installed @ Concourse C C/P, DL Terminal 2 & 3 E/F Fates. - BKSC PRIMARY FOR ALL PAX

FNT - One MMW at the sole checkpoint.

FSD - MMW installed at the sole checkpoint

FWA - Replaced one of the two WTMD with a MMW - WARNING: Clerks have been sending all pax through the MMW. YMMV..

GEG - Horizon Air (Term C) SAFE - Far lane @ C/P for A & B using BKSX

GJT - MMW Installed

GFK - Receiving devices within the next year

GNV - One lane at their checkpoint, and it now has a NoS. Unsure of type.

GPT - One BKSX in use

GRB - MMW in operation for both terminals

GRR - NoS installed, and in use!

GSO - MMW now installed

HNL - Not in use at Inter-Island Terminal. All gates, DOM & INTL can be accessed from there

HOU - All but four WTMD removed, and four MMW installed!

HPN - MMW Installed

HRL - One MMW and one WTMD. WTMD usually roped-off.

IAD
  • Diamond/Crew/Main Line BKSK in ALL lanes
  • Concourse C Midfield Immigration INTL > DOM stay left and then left at junction to avoid BKSX

IAH - Term. A, one MMW Term. B has two MMW. Two WTMD still setup. Term. C has MMW installed. Terminal E, but easy to avoid - MMW - INTL Arrivals has 3 MMW

IND - A & B C/P 3 installed - MMW

ITO - MMW active for all airlines

JAX - 3 MMW devices for four lanes. Far left lane is safe, and it's pretty easy to get yourself into the far left lane if it's open. avoid the priority lane.

JFK - No airside transfers between terminals - T. 1-8 have separate C/Ps, with no way to transfer. T2, T8 BKSX in all lanes - T3 one BKSC - T4 C/P for gates B20-31 has BKSX - BKSX @ UA - T7 & B6 (T5)

JNU - MMW installed

KTN - MMW installed

LAN - MMW Installed

LAS - Multiple MMW @ A/B/C C/P. Old C C/P also has MMW. Most of the WTMDs @ D C/P also have MMW. Old A/B C/P has MMW, T2 (INTL) - Be observant!

LAX-Airside Transfer Possible between T5, T6,T7. Bus Transfer also possible between T3 & T4 (Alaska)
  • US & WN (T1) Family & Medical Lane is SAFE
  • AC/AF/VS (T2) Three or Four Backscatter machines being used
  • AS & VX (T3) Currently using Backscatter

  • Terminal C (US Airways Terminal) (US) 1 MMW installed at each of the Terminal C checkpoints.
  • Terminal D (Delta Terminal) (DL/OH) 1 MMW installed at the main Terminal D checkpoint on the left. SDOO by choosing the WTMD lane pair on the right. Pre-Check on the far right.

LGB - MMW now installed

LIH - Two MMW installed at the main checkpoint. One lane has no WTMD, while the other is MMW/WTMD combo. Gates 3-4 & 9-10 C/Ps are WTMD only.

LIT - MMW installed

MDT - MMW installed @ only C/P. Pax are constantly sent into the machine

MDW - One MMW installed in far right lane. Left and center lanes are WTMD only.

MEM - Used at A/B/C C/P - BKSX

MFE - WTMD still in use, but the NoS has been installed and used. Unsure of type!

MFR - Single MMW; WTMD normally roped-off

MHT - MMW installed at all checkpoints.

MJT - MMW installed

MKE - Concourses C/D/E have MMW. Used as primary. Only option is to opt-out, or declare medical.

MLB - One MMW has been installed

MOB - MMW Installed

MSN - MMW Installed

MSP
  • Terminal 2) Checkpoint 1 has 3 MMW setup. NO WTMD Lanes
  • Two MMW setup at Checkpoint 2-Currently closed for remodeling
  • MMW used at Checkpoint 6
  • MMW used at Checkpoint 10
  • How to avoid The only MSP checkpoint free of MMWs is C/P 4.
  • Any checkpoint can be used to access the sterile area

MSY - MMW Located @ Concourse B, C, and D C/Ps. Stay to the far left @ Concourse B for WTMD

OAK - In use at Terminal 1, 3 installed @ Terminal 2 (WN) C/P - BKSX

OKC - MMW installed

OMA - BKSX used @ AA gates (1-8) C/P

ONT - MMW is now in use at both terminals

ORD
  • Terminal 1 (UA/CO) Multiple Backscatter Installed. Depending on time of day/flow, they may be turned off. Try ANA/LH checkpoint (3)
  • Terminal 2 (AA/AC/DL/US/B6) Multiple backscatter installed. C/P 8 / Pre-Check lane is WTMD only. C/P 8 (non Pre-Check) NoS only!!
  • Terminal 3 (AA/AS/IB/JL) Backscatter Installed
  • International Terminal 5 (Most INTL Departures (Non UA/AA) Backscatter Installed. Reports are that it is easy to self opt-out

ORF - 2 MMW at Concourse A (no WTMD). Concourse B is WTMD only

PEN - MMW Installed

PGD - MMW Installed (NK is the only airline serving Punta Gorda)

PIA - MMW installed at the only checkpoint

PIE - MMW installed at C/P for Gates 2-6

PIT - Devices are installed at both the main and alternate C/P (BKSX)

PBI - MMW in use at all C/Ps. Concourses A,B,C - Concourse C MMW on the 2 right hand lanes of the C/P - Avoid by using Elite/Crew lanes on main level

PDX - MMW installed at A/B/C/D/E checkpoints. Two MMW @ D/E checkpoint. SDOO unlikely, unless extra lanes are open

PHF - MMW installed at Concourse A checkpoint. Concourse B closed for renovations

PHL - Terminal A/C/D/F Domestic have one MMW - Terminal A-International, B, E are SAFE

PHX - T2- (AS/CO/UA) C/P has 3 BKSX - T3 (DL) No scanners installed! - T4 - A/B/C/D C/Ps have 3 BKSX. Avoid by using family line

PNS - Two MMW now in use. Being used as primary

PVD - Main, and only, C/P has received BKSX!! Easily avoidable, by choosing a different line. Very easy to SDOO.

PSP - Both lanes at PSPs sole checkpoint are equipped with MMW

PWM - Three MMW installed at the sole checkpoint; usually only one in operation at a time

RAP - MMW installed

RDU - 1 MMW installed at Terminal 1, WN C/P/ 3WTMD starting at the left, and NoS on the right - 4 MMW installed @ Terminal 2 C/P.

ROC - Machine in use. Staff are rude to opt-outs MMW

RIC - MMW installed @ Concourse A, B & C C/P

RSW - MMW installed at C/P for
  • Concourse B (AB/AC/FL/F9/NK/SY/WS MMW installed
  • Concourse C (CO/DL One Millimeter Wave is in operation.

  • International Terminal G Two MMWs in use. Self opt-out is easy, if the far left lanes are open.

SMF - Terminal A CLEAR! B2 C/P has the NoS - Two machines in the left lanes.. Stay to the far right to avoid the BKSX

SNA - MMW at all checkpoints. SDOO likely impossible.

SJC - BKSX at all lanes, except for the family line. - Terminal B has eight lanes @ the C/P, and 4 BKSX, X-RAY machines in odd lanes feed to WTMD

SJU - Concourse A 2 BKSX, WTMD on left. B6 even more speed lets you SDOO. BKSX installed @ Concourse B & Two BKSC at Concourse C

SLC - Terminal 1 has MMW - Terminal 2 (DL) - Terminal 3 has a single line for the C/P - MMW @ both C/Ps

SRQ - Two MMWs installed

STL - 2 BKSX installed at Terminal 1 A C/P - BKSX @ Term. 2 (East Terminal/WN)

SWF - MMW installed at the the sole checkpoint. SDOO is nearly impossible.

TLH - One MMW for the sole checkpoint

TOL - MMW recently installed. Only at one C/P.

AMS - Two MMW per gate for US-bound departures. One MMW @ C/P for crossing from non-schengen to schengen. Stay to the right
MMW being installed at domestic gates
DUB - MMW at T1, currently in staff lanes but being installed in regular lanes. Opt-out possible, or SDOO by using terminal 2. Terminals are connected landside and airside.
DME - One MMW in the business security area of the international terminal
EDI - Smiths MMW with ATR in use for random/secondary screening. No opt out if selected.
FCO - Test phase II of the L3 MMW scanner with 'new software'
GLA - Smiths MMW with ATR in use for random/secondary screening. No opt out if selected.
LED - MMW - Screener looking at images is right in front of you...
LGW - MMW at North terminal, used for secondary or random only, opting out leads to denial of boarding. South terminal has MMW in lanes 14/15
LHR - MMW at T1, T3, T4, & T5. Used for random and secondary screening only. No opt out if selected. Elite lane at T1 also safe.
ICN - Checkpoints 1 & 3 have one BKSX - Use Checkpoints 2 or 4 to avoid the NoS
KBP - Kiev, Ukraine - L3 MMW. No Opt-Out for flights to Europe
MAN - BKSX in all terminals at most/all lanes. Anyone alarming the WTMD is required to undergo a scan. No opt out if selected.
MXP - Test phase II of the L3 MMW scanner with 'new software'
PVG - Machines used sporadically and only in certain lanes. Not in family lane
SVO - L3 MMW installed. Unsure if opt-out is possible. Transfer checkpoint is safe
YEG - MMW in use for domestic/transborder flights. Random, but opt-out permitted. NEXUS Lane is NoS free
YHZ - MMW in use in domestic/international departure area. All lines have WTMD. Unsure of transborder departure area.
YOW - 1 NoS in the Domestic/Intl C/P - Appears to be used for secondary screening - MMW
YUL - MMW in far left lane being used on all pax. OPT OUT Permitted
YQM - One MMW in operation. Looks to be for US bound passengers
YQB - One MMW in operation. Not used very often
YQR - MMW has been installed. Unclear who is sent to it
YVR - US-bound pax use the MMW, randomly determined by a machine - Domestic, C gates has a MMW for "random selectees" - OPT-OUT POSSIBLE!

ORD has them in T3 as well. 2 at the K concourse checkpoint. Not sure about the others.

PBI now has the MMW at the checkpoint leading to Concourse A/B (Continental, USAir, Southwest)

At times they are primary. B concourse last week we had no choice and everyone had to go through them. It was such slow going that bags were falling off the rollers after being screened,since their owners were still in line to be screened.

If they are going to use them, they need to find a way to speed up the process.

Per TSA Chief Pistole's remarks, please remove this thread immediately (it is injurious to the Homeland).

They just added a millimeter-wave NoS at MSY. I'm not sure if it has gone live yet but it is installed.

I think that the TSA could soon award a contract to a third supplier. Currently, L-3 Communications supplies the millimeter wave scanners, while Rapiscan Systems supplies the backscatter x-ray scanners.

I know Smiths Detection (infamous for those "puffer machines" that have recently been removed due to malfunctions) has introduced their own millimeter wave scanner, but the TSA hasn't deployed their version yet.
