Increasing to 3x/week from December per this article:

Volaris inaugurates nonstop Portland-Guadalajara, Mexico service

http://www.bizjournals.com/portland/...o-take-on.html

"The Volaris service to-and-from Portland will run twice a week on Mondays and Saturdays until December 3, when it will add service on Wednesdays. The carrier said flights are available starting at $180."

The Great:
Best fare to Mexico from Portland
Direct Flight
They state there is a $5 USD fee for printing a boarding pass at the check-in counter. But the kiosks in Guadalajara can't be used for international flights, the fee was not charged.

The Wish it were Different:
They only fly twice a week, soon to increase to three.
Seat pitch is small. Our two flights were on different planes with different pitch. On the return flight when the guy in front of me leaned back I had to put my foot into the aisle to fit. If you have long legs or like room buy the upgrade.
No affiliation for FF miles.

The Be Forewarned:
Brush up on your airport Spanish. All gate announcements were in Spanish. The passengers are supposed to form three lines according to boarding pass group. It was just a mass. This was OK though.

Ala carte pricing, not even free water on the plane. However you won't see the kind of outrageous fees found on Spirit or Ryanair.

In flight purchases are done with cash. We used pesos on the return flight and it worked out well. Don't know if they accept USD, but I doubt.

VClub - it can pay for itself on the first RT ticket. To be considered.

Entertainment Value:
Remember the last time you were carefully, not perfunctorily, asked by the gate agent "Did you pack your bags yourself? Did anyone ask you to carry anything? Have they been out of your sight? ..." Relive the experience!

No first or business class envy. It's all coach.

Overall:
Oh heck yes. We'll use them to fly to Mexico again.
