LAN Lounges in SCL

I was recently in SCL and when I saw the lounge I went downstairs to try to enter. I do not remember which lounge it was, but it was the one closer to gate 16 as opposed to the one next to gate 21. Both times I was denied entry even though I was flying on a paid C ticket and am OW sapphire. The first time was at 7:00am and the 2nd time was at 8:30 at night. Does anyone know why I was not allowed into the first lounge?

Access to First Class lounge is restricted to OW Emerald and First Class passengers only: http://www.oneworld.com/ow/ffp/loung...search#Lounges

However, in Santiago you should have had access to the Pablo Neruda business class lounge based on your class of travel and/or OW elite status:

Has there been any change in smoking policy in Chile after Jan 1st 2008 or is smoking still allowed at SCL airport?

It seems to be severely restricted. IIRC, there's now a cancer incubation room closed off in the Neruda lounge.

We have a 4+ hour layover in SCL coming up. Does anyone know if you can buy your way into one of the LAN lounges? (We do not have status with LAN/OW.) Thanks.

I don't think you can buy your way into the Neruda lounge, but you may be able to pay for the Mistral lounge (which I believe is closed for renovations until July). There is a Pacific Club which you can buy your way into which is near the Neruda lounge. I'm sure AA or DL would sell you day passes, too.

I don't believe there is any One World lounge above the Neruda at SCL. Please correct me if I am wrong. BTW, It's my favorite lounge by far!

No, there aren't. In fact, once I went to the Mistral lounge and the agent wondered why I didn't go to the Neruda lounge. (It was about 6am, a short connection, and close to where I needed to be).

Thanks Eastbay1K and phlashba for the responses; I appreciate it. These are all in the international terminal, correct? Is there anything in LAN's domestic terminal besides the VIP lounge (that we presumably cannot buy our way into)? The Salon Pacifico? We are flying MDZ-SCL-Calama and I assume will have to cool our heels in the domestic terminal.

Thanks!

You know, I used to have a lot of SCL and Chile questions and I had to answer them myself. But now, I am apparently one of the resident experts. There is a domestic Pacific Club, which you can buy your way into, and it is also Priority Pass and Diner's Club affiliated. I've been there several times. Quiet, pleasant, not much in there. The domestic terminal is generally a pleasant quiet place, but not much to do/eat.

If you are connecting from an international flight, you might also pass some time in the duty free shops. There are actually some interesting things to look at if not buy!

When you connect FROM int'l TO domestic, there is only 1 duty free shop available, just past immigration, prior to customs.

As an OT aside, but this reminded me, over the past year-plus, the agriculture folks have been uber-diligent with dogs in the baggage claim area. I've seen quite a number of people having to throw away various food items. (I was even "busted" for not declaring coffee, which was "ok, you can bring it in, but you need to declare it in the future."

OMG, this reminds me. I completely forgot to post this, but I got bent over by Chilean customs about 3 months ago on a light from LIM. Had picked up a banana in the lounge at LIM and forgot to throw it out or eat it before passing through their scanner machines.

Flight arrived at SCL around 2 am and I had an early morning meeting, but these people still made me go through all kinds of "tramites" even though I diligently apologized and explained that I had merely forgot the food I stuck in my bag and was not "lying on a sworn document". The fine ended up being an absolutely ridiculous 180,000 Chilean Pesos. Needless to say, it was not a warm welcome to Chile.
