FYI - Tyler Brule's agency is working on the branding and other aspects of Porter

name, logo and livery design, as well as other areas of design such as
concepts for uniforms, cabin interiors, food service packaging, printed
materials and the website. Winkreative is also consulting on the service

The name "Porter" was chosen for its meanings of "carrying with care" and
"lightening the load", emphasizing that passenger care and efficiency are at
the heart of the new carrier's values. With its clean-cut livery, warm
interior colours, premium amenities, a crisply-suited staff, innovative
packaging and well thought-out service offering, Porter Airlines aims to bring
the concepts of dignity and service back into air travel.
Porter Airlines is the fourth major aviation industry client to work with
Winkreative, the design and advertising agency set up by Wallpaper magazine
founder, Tyler Brűlé. In 2002, Winkreative was commissioned to create a name
and comprehensive brand identity for Swiss International Airlines. Other
clients include Spanair, Bombardier and British Airways.
"Winkreative has been instrumental in defining the Porter brand," said
Robert Deluce, President and CEO of Porter Airlines Inc. "Their creativity and
their passion for building a unique airline will be appreciated by passengers,
and it is a pleasure to have them as part of the team."
"North America has long been in need of a new, innovative carrier and
when we were briefed on Mr. Deluce's concept we were passionate about winning
the pitch," says Winkreative's creative director Tyler Brűlé. "Having worked
extensively in the European premium airline market we feel we've developed a
concept which hits the right tone for Porter's key markets."

About Porter Airlines Inc.

Porter Airlines Inc. is a regional passenger carrier that will operate
out of Toronto City Centre Airport. The airline will begin scheduled service
in 2006 to short-haul Canadian and U.S. destinations within a 500-nm radius
of the Greater Toronto Area. Porter is a subsidiary of privately-held Porter
Aviation Holdings Inc. Visit www.flyporter.com for more information.

About Winkreative

After founding Wallpaper magazine, Tyler Brűlé conceived of an
intelligence-based creative agency to design corporate identities, advertising
campaigns and custom editorial content. Headquartered in Zurich with its
creative hub in London, the agency works across a variety of sectors with a
strong emphasis on travel brands, property companies, luxury goods houses and media
properties. Current clients include British Airways, American Express, James Perse
and NTT Docomo.

Winkreative really did bugger all for BA yet they never seem to cease in hawking BA as one of their 'key clients'.

Either way, Winkreative aren't cheap, but Porter obviously feels that this (hefty) investment in 'brand identity' is worth it...

...Consumers hate to feel like they ae being ripped off, and does nothing to instill loyalty, other than inspiring loyalty by bribing customers with their own money.
These fares are prime example of the 'rip off' nature of Jazz's fare structure and their ethos of gouging local markets with no competition. With competition (WestJet) in the mix into YLW, they offer $57 fares. But Kamloops, similar distance, and no competition, and the average fare is around $300 each way plus tax. In fact, since the demise of Canadian, AC Jazz has actually STIFLED the traffic YKA-YYC with their super high fares and limited capacity. Substantially less people travelled between those two city pairs in the last few years than in the early 2000's.

Porter will be great news for the consumers who will get to fly on Jazz for substantially lower fares than they have to date, but as soon as (if) Porter goes away, will those great fares stay at those great rates or will they rocket northward once Jazz regains it's monopoly on the market?

Air Canada Jazz is a buisness with a goal of doing money. If 37 people are willing to fill up a dash 8 at 300$/person, Jazz will take advantage of the situation because their goal is to MAKE MONEY. Since when should Air Canada run money-loosing routes where they can make loonies?

If your not happy, buy a 757 and run it on YKA-HNL...

I think you missed the point.

Ah, that's right. Westjet has low fares because Westjetters care.

Of course they're out to make money, and it's good business sense to maximise yield vs. revenue.

However, in the case of the above example, many people who did travel, have now been priced out of the market. It's proven from previous years loads that there's enough demand to fill 2 x 37 seat aircraft, but not all at the current prices. To be fair, the situation has eased somewhat in the last few months, previously the lowest priced ticket within 7 days of travel was over $300 but there are now some lower priced 'Tango' tickets in the mix. However, the route is still priced out at over 50% more than using the same equipment out of YLW on a similar stage length.

WestJet, despite their faults, still offfers some lower priced fare options on routes it operates with a relative monopoly.

I don't know where the comment about HNL on 757's came from, this is a straightforward comparison of similar routes using the same equipment, but one with competition, and one with none.

Could it be that the close proximity of YLW and WestJet has diverted the low end market to the point where it is only worthwhile to send one Dash a day into YKA?

Because of the willingness of people to drive to another airport it can affect service to the first city.

I see what you mean. Air canada Jazz mostly serves the 'elite' that can pay a lot while Westjet mostly generates new passengers with low prices.

My comment from the 757 came from the fact that the owner of harmony decided to start an airline after flying on Air Canada to HNL with a late departure, expensive flight and bad service. (or something like that)

I believe Dr. Ho was stranded by a charter carrier, not AC.

If Westjet cared so much they'd fly to YKA. The fact they don't only goes to show there are lots of markets where a 737 is way too much plane.

You are singing the WestJet theme song here.

This is the ballad of 'Market Stimulation' which is mostly hooey. The YLW case is a classic of a low fare operator stealing traffic from the other airports close around. Ask the people in Penticton if they have not seen service drop from multiple B737's a day down to 19 seaters because people now drive to YLW. The rest of the 'stimulation' in Kelowna is from the population and wealth growth of the YLW area.

You called?

We have the Dash 8s back now, but with reduced frequency when compared to the Beech service.
When I moved here is '88 CP was flying 737's and Scare BC was flying Dashs' and I think the odd Bae 146. I can remember the griping with the demise of all this choice. People here have completely unrealistic expectations, we are a city of 30,000 and a trading area of about 50,000.
Personally I wish we could go back to frequent Beech service as opposed to infrequent Dash.
Our fares are typically higher than YLW, however I happily accept it due to my understanding competion, markets, supply and demand. I have started to use YLW more for the frequency and of flights and the newish non stop YLW-YYZ service that AC offers.

Robert Deluce has gained a big financial ally in his bid to launch Porter Airlines from the Toronto Island airport.

Two new investors, including the private equity arm of behemoth General Electric Co., have joined a group that has raised $125.7 million for the controversial venture.

How's this for FA uniforms:

http://toronto.fashion-monitor.com/n...012pink-tartan

Canadian fashion label Pink Tartan will design uniforms for the staff of new Porter Airlines. The Toronto- and New York-based luxury brand founded by Kim Newport and Joseph Mimran will create uniforms for airline's pilots, flight attendants and sales personnel.
