I think that this article has a lot of made-up ........!

Firstly, SAA have not had a first class product for the last seven years, and even then it was only on two routes for the five years before that. Secondly, SAA has never served champagne, but always served South African sparkling wines (it only has South African wines in general). Thirdly, SAA has already announced the Abu Dhabi route and it has not come at the expense of London.

Not sure where you get that idea?

They may never have served "champaign" - but they certainly have served champagne for as long as I can remember. For the past few years it has been Moet.

Always been offered Cap Clasique, maybe I am wrong.

Apologies for the spelling ... for some reason it autocorrected! Edited the op.

Serving Champaign? That's scary as it's a small university town in Illinois. At least they didn't try to serve Urbana.

I would hope so, but when dealing with a basket case, in time may well mean in a very long time.

It would be better if they stuck with the current Shongololo lounge, which is at least halfway decent.

I doubt lounges are the first thing on Etihad's list of things to do with SAA ... Shongololo will always be available through Priority Club ... or get yourself an FNB or RMB credit card and enjoy the SLOW lounge ... it is probably one of the better lounges anywhere in the world!

Thanks for the tips. I agree on the SLOW lounges, they are pretty good.

JNB is one of these airports where, given my flying pattern, lounge access isn't a major consideration. Between, after or before flights I usually have breakfast, lunch or dinner at the IC's Quills restaurant, so all I need on occasion is a shower, otherwise I go straight through security and to the gate.

Why would they want to fly to YYZ?

Maybe one of Jacob Zuma's girlfriends lives there.
Thats as good an explanation as anything for whatever SAA does.

It will certainly make my life easier if SAA flies direct to YYZ

Also lots of my Canadians friends fly to visit SA - through many random routes. There would be a demand.

Dropped in favour of a codeshare with Air China and Etihad. Mumbai probably to follow.
