I know I have already posted this in another thread but as this site is about being informed I though MS goers and potential MS pax would find it interesting(for want of a better word)


EgyptAir Warned To Improve Safety Or Face EU Blacklisting

EgyptAir has been warned that it risks inclusion on the European Commission's blacklist of banned airlines unless it addresses serious concerns in several areas of its operation.

In a detailed assessment of its recent blacklist revision, the Commission states that 75 inspections since January last year turned up 240 individual safety findings, including 69 in the highest of the three classifying categories.

The Commission expressed "serious concern" to the Egyptian civil aviation authority in May, regarding "systemic safety deficiencies" at the flag-carrier.

It says the "persistence of serious findings" in areas such as airworthiness, maintenance, operations and the safety of cargo on board has prompted a request for monthly reports, from Egyptian authorities, on implementation of a corrective action plan.

EgyptAir submitted extensive documentation detailing remedial action during June, says the Commission, and made a presentation to the European air safety committee two weeks ago.

As a result the Commission says it is not blacklisting the carrier "at this stage".

But it adds that it has "urged" EgyptAir to provide "without delay" for the sustainable resolution of the various findings, "failing which, appropriate measures will have to be taken".

Inspections of the airline are to be intensified and the air safety committee will review the carrier's position in November. EgyptAir could not immediately be reached for comment.

This is the second time you've posted this. Think maybe you are going overboard a bit? Last time Egyptair had a crash and loss of life was over 7 years ago landing in a sandstorm, fog, and rain in Tunis. Before that was a suicidal pilot in 1999 and before that, a gap of 14 years with no crashes and fatalities. None of these accidents were caused by shoddy operations or mechanical problems.
I mean, AF has had 2 Airbus accidents and the fiery Concorde in the past 10 years (CDG crash of the Concorde, Toronto on landing, and of course AF447 from Rio). Where are the warnings not to fly them?

Yes, and your point is?..I think I explained clearly why I posted the story in its own right/thread. It is worrying namely because MS on the whole has quite a modern fleet and to be on the verge of blacklisting by a major world body I think speaks for itself. Furthermore, the safety issues have been pre identified with MS in the case of Air France we have no idea why the recent A333 crashed and the Concorde was a piece of metal on the runway piercing the tank-a freak accident. I would post any such article if I came across it for any carrier. As a very frequent flyer I like to know the carrier I chose to fly is least likely to have safety issues. Between "overboard" and safety I know which I'd prefer.

I agree MS has been safe of late, but no crashes/fatalities in 7 years is still not anything to boast about.

I think some people are looking for a reason to get worried. Am I confident that AF maintain their planes better than MS do? Yes, I am.
Am I going to avoid flying MS because of that? Don't think so.

Anyone who IS going to avoid flying them beause of worrying about the EU findings, please come forward and tell us how many times out of the last 10 you used the seatbelt in the back seat of a taxi. If the answer is 9 or less, then you're just being irrational about air safety. If the answer is 10, then you must be living a very sheltered life.

Unless you're talking about something extreme like an unlicensed Nigerian Cessna operator who's nicked the wheels off his neighbour's Mercedes and put the tyres on the plane, flying is so many orders of magnitude safer than walking/riding/driving (or, for that matter, getting something from the top shelf at the supermarket or swimming in the local pool) that it really isn't worth worrying about on a micro level.
