MEA to start Baghdad in June

Lebanon and Iraq have signed an air transport agreement and it's been announced that MEA will launch flights to Baghdad in June. Services to Baghdad have been suspended since the 1991 Gulf War.

An MEA delegation will be traveling to Baghdad next month to assess conditions and make preparations for the flights.

This makes MEA the 3rd major foreign carrier to restore services to Baghdad after Royal Jordanian and Turkish Airlines.

Royal Jordanian has been operating into Baghdad since 2004, but the flights are not operated by them, instead they're operated on wet-leased Fokker F28s with specially trained pilots from South Africa.

Turkish Airlines' service started this past October and are operating the flights themselves using A320s and 737-800s.

That's great news, Thanks for sharing BA.I'm sure the vibrant MEA livery will help brighten Baghdad's International Airport somewhat.

Merry Christmas, Happy New year and Happy Hanuka to all!
