TAP has just uploaded the new schedules for its Brazil flights, which are valid from 10 Sept 2009. The news are:
An abrupt reduction in the number of available seats (compared to last year's late IATA Summer season, TAP will roughly offer less 4288 seats per week and less 16 weekly flights);
Two new departure banks: one around 16h and another after 23h;
GIG, GRU e BSB will be red-eyes in both ways ― which will probably be an attempt to improve the yields but will naturally leave the planes on the ground for more than 10h in Brazil.
Here are the schedules (the example is from the week of 27 Sep 2009 to 04 Oct 2009):
Code:

The crucial difference will be the vastly improved connectivity (and reliability of those connections) at LIS. For the earlier departures I preferred to overnight in Lisbon to be sure of getting on the morning Brasil departures.
LIS is NOT an airport for efficient, stress-free connections !!

I do agree with you. And I would add that several destinations will now have same-day connections to GIG, GRU and BSB, without need for a stopover anymore ― it's the case of CPH, OSL, ARN, PRG, BUD, ZAG, VCE or BLQ. But connectivity also improves from GRU, GIG and BSB, because overall this schedule fits better JJ's departures and arrivals.
The only problem is that the new European destinations of TP (WAW, HEL e DME) have schedules which were adjusted the former Brazil schedules (and partially LAD). This means they now are totally unfit for any connection to Brazil. It's the case of HEL (departure from LIS at 22h20 and arrival at 08h35) and WAW (departure from LIS at 16h50 and arrival at 09h05). I'd therefe expect some further schedule changes in these destinations.

For GRU, I'm sure STAR-boss Lufthansa will be interested in taking up the HEL and WAW traffic. As it is, LH generally tries to direct GIG, SSA (etc) traffic through its own GRU services rather than lose revenue to a TP connection through LIS. So much for alliances...
On an OT note, my C-class leg LIS LHR last week was so far below the lowest range of service standard expected, it was like being back in the bad old days of Navigator. I hope network expansion isn't taking over from the focus on sevice quality improvement.

I am not sure about DME and HEL, but WAW could be done as a same day turnaround, it is a 4 hour flight, so I imagine a schedule like
LIS-WAW 10.00-14.00
WAW-LIS 15.00-19.00
would still offer a nice connections to RIO,SAO and a few more destinations.

Indeed. And same could be done with HEL (just more 40 mins. of flight each way). DME already has it on days 1 and 6:
LIS-DME 09.15-17.40
DME-LIS 18.30-21.05

True, true. Unless there is a JV, even carriers within the same alliance will (sometimes fiercely) compete with one another. It's up to TP to try to cater these pax to its flights instead of LH's. Hopefully with better service than the one you got in your last flight...

Well, we could hear the cabin crew having a fine old time behind the firmly-drawn curtain to the forward galley. Always a comfort to know someone's enjoying the flight

That's true, I don't like Portela (Lisbon) Airport at all, Francisco Sá Caneiro(Porto) is much better, especially after the modernizaiton for Euro 2004. Lisbon may offer more shops, services and food, but Porto has a couple of nice café-restaurants airside and is alot calmer, the gates go directly from the Airsite main hall, it's one giant room, even Passport control is in it, so if you have to go though passport control, you can still go to all other gates and look at the planes first!

True - but if you marry the high investment put into Porto with the modest passenger traffic, you get a level of comfort not so many provincial airports can provide Certainly not so many Ryanair airports ......
TP has started introducing some changes to the schedules of its European flights to adjust departure times to the new long-haul departure banks. They will enter in effect at the same time (Sep. 10), but not all at once. The main changes are the following (example for the week of Oct 20):
End or reduction of flights with night stop, departing from LIS: FCO, LIN, CDG, AMS, GVA, ZRH, MUC and SVQ.
Other cases of reduction of flights: departures from LIS to BRU, MRS and NCE; departure from OPO to MAD, MXP, AMS and GVA.
