Aer Lingus - strict about carry-on bag weight?

I noticed on EI's website that they list the maximum weight of carry-on luggage at 13 pounds. My bag will be the normal carry on size, but will likely weigh in over that by a pound or two. Will I be forced to check it? I've never seen weight restrictions on carry-on bags before - certainly not enforced.

I've yet to see them check the weight of the carry-on bags. I'd say once it fits in the storage bin or under your seat you'll be grand.
See you on the SFO flight tomorrow? :P

It depends on where you are boarding and the loads on that flight.

I have routinely seen them strictly enforce carry on limits in LHR. I've seen Gold Circle Club members throwing mighty strops and getting absolutely nowhere.

Now if you're travelling TATL, it'll likely be much easier to get a slightly oversize bag onboard.

OTOH, if you "normal carry on size" is an American "normal carry on size" (i.e. big enough to put a Mini Cooper inside), then you may have some issues.

Do report back and let us know what happens, where and with what size/weight bag.

I concur. EI are more interested in eyeballing the size of the carry-on rather than checking its weight.

It's a standard size carry-on... it fits in wheels first (even expanded) into an MD-80's bins. I've never had any problems with the bag previously. It's not the size I'll be worried about at all. It's the weight. It carries my laptop, clothes, etc. It'll come in at 15-16 pounds.

I'll be flying in coach DUB-LHR.

It sound like you should be ok.

Though, if loads are heavy, it pays to be among the first to board. The stragglers are the ones that get gate checked.

Unfortunately it's not whether the bag will fit in an overhead bin, but what are it's dimensions. Bag including handles and wheels must not exceed 22" x 17.5" x 9.85". Standard European rule and you will see many cages around airport departure areas.

There are many luggage manaufacturers who claim that their wheelies conform but when you check they don't by a mile!

Try using the self service check in machines if you want to avoid checking in your bag. Or check in online before the flight. It opens 24 hrs before the departure time.

.... Brilliant, and so very very true..

To be fair, I have never had a problem with carry on any any EI flight that I have ever taken, The fact that I am pernickity about being one of the first onboard ties in with the above advice from Goldcircle

You all were right - I had no problems. Checked in at the kiosk. The transfer in LHR from T1 to T3 - WHOLE other story. I don't know why they even call it "flight connections". They just dump you right out to the front of T3.
