Aeroflot/S7 Merger Talks Are Off

This quote pretty much tells Aeroflot's side of the story (from their CFO):

"We have analyzed the financial condition of S7 and determined that there is nothing to merge with," Poluboyarinov said at a news conference, Interfax reported.

Full article here.

I'd hate to see comp between key cities die off which would happen if S7 merges or goes under. They've made SU a better airline in my opinion.

This is a little funny!

You don't like s7, but think that the competition has made for a better aeroflot?

Could very well be true, however SU flies mostly on international routes, while s7 is a mostly domestic airline.

It is true. Between SVO and OVB they have made a big difference. SU allows 30kg per passenger in baggage on the early morning flight and S7 still only 20kg. SU advertises this in OVB quite publically. Thank you S7 for sticking to your 20kg guns.

SU has added steadily to the number of daily flights from OVB (corrected for those paying super duper close attention) to SVO (so as to not be confused with Moscow airports in general) and I think a lot of that is in response to SU running as many as 5 or 6 flights a day to DME from OVB. Thank you again S7.

S7 built a nice first class lounge at OVB which SU J and STE+ passengers get to use. Makes the early a.m. flight pre-boarding time a lot more enjoyable. Thank you again S7.

S7 still is in no alliance which finally forced me to move totally to SU and Sky Team regardless of the cheaper fares S7 would sometimes offer (see below).

So, yes, I do think S7 has made SU a better airline for my travel patterns.

Now if SU will just match those insane end of year tariffs S7 sometimes has. I last flew on S7 3 years ago for 889r (about $36) round trip from DME to OVB. Just paid $449 on SU for a trip coming up in Feb.

Allow me to hereby nominate you for the "most incoherent post of 2008" award.

What type of aircraft does SU run from SVO to OVB?

Tu-154 or Airbus?

What does s7 run?
