But as you so rightly told me about this time last year making Gold on SU ain't that big a deal. 20kg of extra baggage and some bag tags and 50% extra miles. STE+ too. Other than that...

Yes mate. So now you have 1st hand experience too. Anyways but having PRIME status with SU is fun. Many perks both offical & unoffical on SU.

Do tell! The only one I think I've gotten was a 100% refund on a ticket I bought with a wrong return date. I called Moscow from the US immediately upon getting my emailed confirmation, reminded them I was a Gold Bonus member, and they gladly canceled the itin at no charge. Best I can tell that is not a published bennie.

Any desire to let on what our unofficial perks might be?

Also, you got any fresh updates on SVO3 lounge offerings?

I think you misunderstood me. I have PRIME status with SU now and not GOLD. PRIME tier is the top tier with SU and you get it by having 130,000 tier miles in 1 year out of which 70% have to be in paid Business class.

This status carries quiet a lot of perks which are not published in the open anywhere.

We finished our consultancy for SVO3 more than 2 months ago. So my info can not be upto date by any means. I saw last week that SVO3 was handling a couple of TU154 flights in the evening which would be domestic flights perhaps on a trial basis. So this means its bound for an opening sooner rather than later. They will do it only once everything is settled & inplace because otherwise heads roll in Russia very easily and sometimes blood follows it too so the concerned people will not end up doing anything stupid considering the price they might have to pay if they mess it up.

I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for a OCT 25 launch with on onset of the winter timetable. This is my guess but then again its Russia and you never know!!!

Safe Flying

Wow, an unpublished 3rd tier on SU. Who knew? Surely not I. I'm still curious what those perks might be...

It is mentioned in the Russian section of AB site. Nothing special - it is basically a Gold combined with a free PrimeConcept membership (24 hours concierge service).

Just wondering here...why does my Gold SU Bonus Card only say "Sky Team Elite" and not "Sky Team Elite Plus" on it?

I tried to use it to get into the Air France/KLM Salon lounge last night in JNB and they would not let me in saying the card said "STE" only. I used my Delta Platinum card instead but just wondered why Elite Plus, which is a benefit I believe of SU Gold, is not written on the card.

Any ideas?

This is weird. Mine has this small logo in the top right corner of the card reading "Elite plus". Issue is that for some weird reason some of the systems recognize SU G as ST Elite (this problem has been reported many times to the AB team but to no avail); accordingly your BP would read your FF number with Elite next to it. The only way to resolve it is to demonstrate the SU card itself to the dragons and if they continue to insist this is not E+ to ask for the airlibne representative to go and check ST policies.

Here's another SU Gold benefit for you, woody125:

They just announced they are going to charge R700 for exit rows on their long-haul flights and SU Golds are exempt. This is so new it hasn't made it to the English side of their website yet.

I got the email on that but isn't it only for long haul domestic (Far East) and the really long haul int'l runs? I did not see SVO to OVB mentioned in my email. Hopefully I missed the fact it applies to OVB from SVO.

Nope, it doesn't. Here's the destination list from their mailing:

BKK, IAD, VVO, HAV, HKG, DEL, LAD, LAX, GDX, JFK, PEK, PKC, ICN, NRT, KHV, HAN, PVG, UUS.

So this basically applies to the whole of their widebody fleet - except for ULN (B767) and a couple of shorter flights where they use the A330. As long as OVB is served by an A320, you're fine.

(In other news, word is they are resuming YYZ, BOM, KUL and/or SIN in 2010 - wonder if these will make it to the list????).
