It does not mean that (use up the 25K first) as far as anyone has experienced.
what is interesting is that the language is changing for some new apps to something that might mean an end to churning. YMMV but the results of recent churn attempts are also showing a heightened resistance from Citi to churn baby churn behaviors.
Are you saying I should do the 25000 ones first? Thanks so much?

First, Jim, thanks for this great thread, which I just came across. But I'm confused by your post above. If people have been churning up to two cards per 60 days, don't they sometimes end up with more than 6 Citi AA credit cards? Or is the recommended strategy to keep closing them and, if possible, consolidate credit balances?

If you read and search the other thread, it will answer your questions. For the most part Citi has stopped consolidating CLs.

I suspect most people simply cancel after the bonus has posted. So there may be times you have out 4 cards during an overlap, but I can see no advantage to keeping open cards on the account, in fact it will actually hamper you as Citi is getting tough on credits lines and too much outstanding credit may actually hamper your ability to get additional credit issued by them.

Good to know. I'd been operating on the assumption that the more credit the better, but clearly this is a different circumstance. Thanks!
Even in the past when "free" money was flowing, too much credit, especially if they were unsecured, was still a bad thing (in relationship to your household income), because that meant you would be a higher risk when default.
There is a balance and the balance currently is tilted largely to LESS credit than your household income can support.

No consolidation is allowed with the new law being cited as an excuse.
Reallocation can still be done and if one wants to preserve the line while cancel card, move some portion of the line to an existing card is still allowed - though the process is no longer instant, but has to put in a request and is handled by another department.
It's probably worth noting the otherwise identical offer at www.fly9.citicards.com with fee waiver for the first year.

How many cards can I have outstanding at a time?
Some have reported as many as 6 cards outstanding at one time. Some have reported that in order to get any additional cards, Citibank required a reduction in credit from an existing card to allow credit for a new card.
Given the variety of Citi's credit products, you might want to clarify whether you mean 6 Citi AAdvantage-related cards or 6 Citi cards of any type.
FWIW, my experience lines up precisely with your description. A month ago I applied for a seventh Citi card (one of the Thank You Network products) on top of my existing cards (2 other TYN cards; Citi AA MC & Amex; Citi Hilton; and the co-branded Associated Bank 5% cashback card). Citi approved me, although they did insist on reallocating credit from one of the existing cards.

Gig is Up 12/31/2009?
From the various sources (mostly FlyerTalk threads) I have looked at, it looks like there are no more Citi AA offers after 12/31/2009 that waive the first year annual fee. Also, the offers ending after 12/31/2009 (including those linked from the AA and Citi web sites) have wording that says "valid only for first-time Citi® / AAdvantage® cardmembers" instead of the previous "new accounts".
Does anybody think we will still be able to get sign up bonuses and/or annual fee waivers after 12/31/2009? Are there any links out there with the favorable wording good for sign ups after 12/31?
There are updated links in the OP, but like you point out many will soon expire. After that it looks like you will have to pay $85 for your 30,000 miles, still not a bad deal if you need the miles!
If anyone comes accross any updated links, please PM me so I can update the thread ASAP!
Thanks
Jim

I wouldn't be surprised to see the "first year fee waived" offer extended. JMHO.

I wouldn't either, but it is unusual for us to get this close to the expiration dates of the MC offers without another one already out. This combined with the new wording brings concern for next years activities.
