AMEX SPG up to 25K

I hate it when it happens. Just applied for AMEX SPG with the old offer, 10K after first purchase. Now they have the new offer, 10K after first purchase +15K after spending $15K in the first 6 moths.

https://www201.americanexpress.com/c...OtsQSoYlPBltXg

Do you think I can convience them to change my promo?

How long ago did you apply? Have they opened an account for you already and sent you a card? I think that if it was all very recent, e.g., within past 30 days, you might be able to cancel and start "fresh." If the sign-up miles have already hit your SPG account, I would be surprised if they let you back out and take the richer offer.

I know citicard allows you to get multiple bonuses. Does SPG Amex allow the same?

Technically the terms of this offer state you're ineligible for the bonus points if you ever held a starwood amex. I have a fairly new card and was told by email I cannot get the new offer. However, in other threads people claim to have received a bonus twice in the past. YMMV

Edited to add:

Indeed this is a very juicy offer. Unfortunately such a good program but not good enough for UA.

On another note, I think this thread should be either in starwood or Amex thread.

There's one, but it was closed by the moderator:

If you had the original "platinum" SPG credit card you are evidently still eligible for an enrollment bonus on the new "red" SPG credit card because American Express has reportedly classified it as a different product. In principle the same cardholder should not be able to obtain more than one enrollment bonus each for the red personal card and another for the red business card. In practice?

I got a Starwood Amex a couple of years ago, before the "red" card, renewed for a few thousand Starpoints to cover the annual fee after a call to cancel, and recently got a replacement card which is "red". Guess that probably means I am SOL on the new bonus. Should not have violated my rule to never pay extra for miles or points.

Is there a business version of this offer?

That is one of the best offers. Also interersted if applies to Business cards ?

Just to make sure: after the initial 10,000 points: when you spend $15,000 do you get the 15,000 points simply because esch $1 gets one point? Or, you get 15,000 points bonus, plus the regular 15,000 points for spending the $15,000 --so you get a total of 40,000 points?

This is a good question because American Express has history of including the normal earnings in the advertised total, but in this instance it is a genuine bonus...

...earn an additional 15,000 Starpoints when you spend $15,000 in 6 months...You must use your Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card to complete $15,000 of eligible spending by the end of your first six months of Cardmembership, based on the date of your Card approval. 15,000 Starpoints will be credited to your account 8 to 12 weeks after you reach the spend threshold.

That would be a sweet deal. You could transfer to 50K AA miles for essentially 15K in spending.

Too bad I don't think I can get an Amex card...they turned me down last time I applied. I have stellar credit (700+) except for one old collection from years ago on a medical bill I didn't agree with and didn't pay out of principle Funny I never have problems getting approved for anything except for Amex.

If you look at the other threads, AMEX does not allow you to get a second card and get another bonus. However, if you have a spouse, have them get the card and then transfer the points between SPG accounts.

From a long time AMEX card member, is this a good offer and worth switching to?

I've read often that the Starwood Amex is one of the better cards for accumulating miles but, I never bothered to switch over. I use my AMEX for travel and everyday purchases. Is there any advantage to staying with "regular" AMEX as compared to switching over? Does the Starwood card open up more airline options to me for FF rewards? Also, does it give you the same travel insurance/protection as an "ordinary" AMEX card? Is there such a thing as a platinum Starwood card? And, once you switch over, is there any reason to continue to use your old AMEX card?

Thanks, and I apologize in advance if these questions are very basic.
