europcar funny business with insurance at CDG

Before declining insurance on your europcar rental determine what the policy is for declining insurance first; it could be pricey indeed.

B. Kofoed writes International Travel News he rented a car earlier this year for a five day period, declined insurance and prepaid, picked up at CDG.

At check-in he was told he needed to make a deposit of €800, sign a document stating he would be responsible for up to €25,000 in damages and pay a €85 "fee" for "inspection" of the vehicle's undercarriage upon return of the vehicle.

The price of insurance he decided to pay? €85, coincidentally.

I got the same hard sell at Europcar CDG. The agent also took a long time to find the form to let me decline insurance, like nobody had ever used one before. I rented with my Amex Platinum, put up with his drama, and rented without additional insurance. I returned the car in a smaller town, and they didn't even check the car for damage.

I have used Eropcar twice and had good service overall. They need to give up the harassment of customers at the CDG desk.
