Omigosh! Aren't the 74E birds still using the old Super Biz seats and old IFE? That would really suck for anyone that bought PL tickets earlier and get on one of these old seats.

Any chance BR is upgrading their 74E biz cabin or are they just gonna keep 'em going till retirement?

Both BR and CI are running out of aircrafts to operate with the cross strait charters implemented (you can see those funky schedules they have for the cross charters). It's said that the charters will turn into scheduled flights first half year of 2009... which means they will have to lease some aircraft or bust.

If they are re-instating the flights in LAX and SFO, they will need additional aircrafts, which means the 74E may return on certain routes.

Combi's pretty much suck in coach or Biz but Evergreen Deluxe in the nose is hard to beat.

The cabin in the nose of 747 is for sure very quiet. Only when the nose landing gear up or down can make loud mechanical noise. But, that is the fun part.

It's also very interesting. I have heard lots of my friends complaining elite class. They always say Evergreen Deluxe is more comfortable than elite class. The only thing they like elite class is its IFE/AVOD system. I just don't know why.

I'm one of them. In fact I long stopped using the IFE/AVOD system anyway. So the only benefit to me in Elite (and it's a real one) is laptop power so I can watch my own stuff.

Off the top of my head, these are the reasons why I prefer(ed) Deluxe to Elite (ie the COMBI config with deluxe in the nose) and would have it back anyday.

1) better cabin circulation - access to both aisles and all toilets.
2) exit seats and other seats with improved leg room - easy to secure if you're gold. Practically this meant that I never had to fly with a seat in front of me. With Elite, unless you're in the baby row, there's always a seat in front of you.
3) More seats - fewer waitlist problems. Easier to change flights. Elite is a much smaller cabin - fills up quickly.
4) More attention from FAs, better meal service. (You're a bit marooned in Elite.)
5) I found the seats more comfortable in Deluxe - but that's a taste thing. Not a lot of difference.

And as of now the SF flights in question are comming up as ED when I try and book them.

Good news for me, save almost $1000 (RT BKK-LAX in PL was around $2500, ED should be under $1500).

I too find the old ED seats (and envirnment) far superior to EE, enough that I am booking PL on new metal.

Though I agree the old Biz was nearly worthless, hardly better than the old ED.

I won't buy PL class from any city in North America if there are un-refitted combi's plying any NA route, due to the possibility of equipment substitutions. Can you imaging paying 3-5K for a PL seat, and then showing up at the airport to find you'd actually paid for 'Super' Biz?
