EVA Air Royal Laurel Meals 2013 - 2021

I have the option to pre-order my meal for BKK-LHR in Royal Laurel on BR. Is there also a menu on board with options that are different? Just wondering if I don't like anything on the pre-select menu is it worth waiting to order something different on board.

Unless it's changed from my PL trips on this route, the online selection is a superset of the onboard options (and it's clear from the process which are the "standard" meals). So no reason to delay ordering.

If you did get onboard and fancied the standard meal instead, they would try to accommodate you. A couple of times I've been so hungry that I had both my pre-order meal and a standard meal..!

Personally I haven't found the extra pre-order options any better than the standard ones, just different. Also in the last few years the number of options has declined. Indeed on the second meal I don't think I got any extra choice at all last time. Perhaps this will improve with RL. Certainly the prices are going up a bit!

Finally, do make sure you get it. They usually check at the start of the flight what you have ordered. But one time despite doing this they gave my meal to another pax by mistake.... I felt so sorry for the crew. I really wasn't that bothered but I had just become diamond and the purser was so so embarrassed that her VIP pax ("seedy pax") had been let down.

Seems like the pre-order options are better for dinner over breakfast meals. There are usually 5-6 different options over the set 3 options. If I'm in RL, I always pre-order my dinner (but skip breakfast in order to get more sleep).

I believe pre-order options are highlighted in PURPLE (with an *) on top of existing choices (LIGHT GREEN colors)

If you don't like any of the meal offerings, explore a Kosher or other special meal. I always pre-order Kosher on EVA (flying premium economy AKA elite). EVA's Kosher meals are very very good.

SFO-TPE

I picked the duck breast for dinner. Breakfast selection is disappointing, so I picked the Omelette (I'd go with congee but I figure they might have that at the lounge during my four hour layover anyway).

Supper Meals
Grilled Prime Beef Fillet with Truffle Demi Sauce
Noodle with Scallop, Shrimp, Seabass Fish
Grilled Chicken Breast with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce
*Roasted Medallion of Pork Wrapped with Bacon and Red Wine Sauce
*Pan Seared Seabass Fillet with Hot and Spicy Sauce
*Roasted Herb Crusted Lamb Chop with Red Onion and Chanterelle Mushroom Demi Glaze Sauce
*Stir Fried Seafood(Scallop and Shrimp) with XO Sauce
*Pan Seared Duck Breast with Pomegranate Merlot Glaze

Breakfast Meals
Mushroom and Swiss Cheese Omelette
Plain Congee
Ham Frittata with Greek Salad

Yes the second choice is really annoying. There seems to be a presumption that all westerners must have egg for breakfast. And of course Taiwanese love egg too. Actually it was one of the first bits of Chinese I learnt - "no egg please".

I don't like eggy stuff, particularly when flying. Just makes me feel sick.

Roasted Chicken Breast with Bolongese Sauce
*Roasted Black Cod with Yellow Tomato Sauce
*Braised Chicken with Shiitake Mushroom and Chestnut
*Rack of Lamb with Ginger and Soy Sauce

*Stir Fried Lobster with Ginger and Green Onion Oyster Sauce

Breakfast
Mushroom Omelette
Plain Congee
Sundried Tomato and Feta Cheese Quiche

寶島清粥
風乾蕃茄乳酪蛋派

I picked the black cod, my wife picked the lobster. We both picked the omelette for breakfast.

Funny, the last Chinese option is "I won't need the meal."

So, a full dinner is served after taking off like 2 AM?

Takeoff is 1:30am so dinner is served after 2:30am EST really
Hence one can choose the "no meal" option to sleep instead

Sorry, I don't read Chinese, I just cut and pasted to e-mail someone, without paying attention. While in the English list, I removed the "no meal" entry. But yes, it's there too.

I see. I thought it should have been the other way - the Chinese can always eat but non-Chinese not so much

Here's a review of BR's most recent meal service in RL on the TPE to SFO route posted by Lucky in his blog. A bit shocking and disappointing to read. Has anyone flown the JFK/TPE route recently?

I'm shocked at how little the TPE-SFO route was also

Not sure if you can read Chinese, but R.L. meals look much better in this blog post of TPE-JFK r.t.

Thanks for sharing. I can't but appreciate the pix. Night and day when comparing pix from the two blogs. I didn't see any pix for snacks on the tpe to jfk route. that is a long flight without a substantial snack of some sort to fight off hunger.
