Happy new year everyone! Can anyone tell me more about the actual procedure once you arrive at CMB?

I contacted UL with the PNR, they confirmed our booking (one version says "garden hotel" the other one says "hualuxe", not too sure!), but they haven't answered me on what we actually need to do when we arrive (e.g. do we go to a transit desk? Exit and then go to a specific desk after immigration, etc??)

We did the transit visa so all set from that point of view, it is just a matter of knowing where to actually go once landed so thanks in advance for any help!

I have an upcoming flight in August and on CheckMyTrip I've seen they had a booking to the Taj Airport Garden Hotel for my 9 hours connection so I guess they are still using this hotel.

I just arrived back so I know the procedure. i flew LHR-KUL in business class with 12 hour layover on the way out and 20 hours on the way back.

When you arrive just go to the transit desk. They will take your onward boarding pass and within minutes give you a paper with details of hotel. next you go through immigration (which both ways was pretty quick), through customs and on the public side on the right hand side you will see a desk (operated by sister company of Sri Lankan Airline). you hand the piece of paper to them and just wait 5-15 minutes until they know the driver has arrived. You will then be escorted to the car who will whisk you off to the hotel. at the hotel they will check you in and let you know which meals are included.

on the way out I stayed at Galadari Hotel in Colombo. On the return leg I was given a room at Jetwing Sea hotel on the beach in Negombo.

At Galadari I was given meal vouchers to be used in their buffet restaurant. at Jetwing Sea there were no vouchers but when you give them your room number they give you a 'transit menu' which is a four course meal (with choices) plus tea/coffee. for breakfast its a normal buffet.

I have to say the whole procedure was very efficient. the flights were great and I enjoyed my free vacation in Sri Lanka.

Does anybody know if they provide the transit hotel for those flying in J also if the connecting flight is not the next available one (but still within the 24hr window)?

I would fly UL again if I head East again, just for the daytime or overnight stay in Sri Lanka. And of course the wonderful service on board.

Thanks for sharing this info. Interesting to note that the Hotel Accommodation is provided only in Colombo, since Negombo is much nearer to the airport and has some decent 4/5 star hotels.

Actually they mean that they provide accomodation when having a layover in Colombo Airport but the accomodations are usually arranged in one of the Negombo Hotels.

Negombo does have a relative dearth of good hotel rooms...lots of basic places that are just fine for a quick nighttstop, at their price - but the ones that we would probably not like when the airline's putting us up!

Yep- one of the nicer properties in Negombo (think 2-3 others in that category). But,the total number of rooms @ Jetwing Sea is probably less than what 2 floors of any of the Colombo city hotels used by UL would have!

Update on this for my itinerary, i emailed UL beforehand asking whether they would provide a transit hotel and was told no, since my connecting flight is not the first available.

At the airport i nevertheless walked to the transit desk and asked there - and voila, was given accomodation voucher for the Galadari Hotel in central Colombo with transfers and meals (quite a nice buffet there), which i was obviously very happy about.

Any idea if they normally allocate different hotels for those traveling in Business Class vs Economy? I have a 14 hour layover going from Maldives to Dhaka via Colombo (Economy class), and will consider paying for a stay at the Cinnamon Grand hotel in Colombo (best one I presume) if the free transit hotel otherwise given is crappy. Would be happy if its hotel Galadari, Kingsbury, Jetwing in Negombo, etc as saw on other reports.

Edit: Also noticed above wording about "The net fare paid should be over USD 180(exclusive of taxes)". Found my fare of $194 according to ITA Matrix comes to about $164 each exclusive of taxes, wonder if this disqualifies us anyway.

Question Stopover over 8 hours due to flight delay

Hello everyone,
My dad is on a flight operated by Mihin Lanka (MJ) (Code shared with Sri Lanka Airline) from SIN-CMB-LHE.

His stopover in CMB was for 03:40 hours. But it is being delayed (right now) for 04:25 hours. This means his stopover is now over 8 hours. Does anyone know if the airline would show the courtesy of providing accommodation for rest? Especially in this case when his stopover is more than 8 hours only due to the unexpected delay.

Thanks!
