FJ / Fiji Airways adds A330-300, ups J bag limits Dec 2015 - configuration notes

This week, Fiji Airways / FJ (née Air Pacific) has added its first (leased) A330-300 (-343), "Island of Rotuma", to the fleet. The aircraft was greeted at Nadi on arrival by a delegation from the Rotuman community . The aircraft will serve primarily on the popular NAN-LAX service, and secondarily NAN-HKG.

Fiji Airways had originally leased in Boeing 747-400s from SQ, and more recently retired those in favor of the new leased A330-200 aircraft seating 273 in two classes (2013). The new -330 arrived 29 Dec 2015 from Hong Kong with President Major General Jioji Konrote on board, as his son piloted. The new "Island of Rotuma" will begin service in January, 2016.

The A330-300 acquisition was partly spurred by schedule disruptions when one of the three -200s had to be taken out of service for inspection and maintenance after a "heavy" landing at SYD.

Improvements for passengers include increased noise insulation, softer LED lighting, more rounded contours and a redesigned air condition is said to provide enhanced cabin sector control.

Improvements for crew include a pilot crew rest module.

The engines used are the same as used on the -200, Rolls Royce Trent 7000; the A3301300 offers an operational range of 6350 nautical miles (11,750 Km), an increase of 500 nautiical miles over the A330-200 in the existing fleet.

Airbus A330-200 (three in fleet):

Total capacity: 273
Saleable configuration: 24 Business Class | 249 Economy Class
Business Class seating: 60" pitch, lie flat 8 degree bed, in-seat video with 15.4” monitors, in-seat power and entertainment on demand
Economy Class seating: 31-32" pitch, 7.5" recline, in-seat video with 10.6” monitors, in-seat USB power and entertainment on demand

A330-300 (one in fleet)

Total capacity: 313
Saleable configuration: 24 Business Class | 289 Economy Class
Business Class seating: 60" pitch, lie flat 8 degree bed, in-seat video with 15.4” monitors, in-seat power and entertainment on demand
Economy Class seating: 31-32" pitch, 7.5" recline, in-seat video with 10.6” monitors, in-seat USB power and entertainment on demand

Business Class seats are in 2 X 2 X 2 configuration in both, and are the Zodiac Aerospace/Weber Mark 7811 (like those Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines, but 8 degree from horizontal lie flat) with seat power and a 15.4" IFE monitor using Panasonic ex2 AVOD. Your feet end up under the console of the seat in front of you. (The seat is capable of full horizontally flat configuration, but in lower density than FJ offers.)

Note row 1 has plenty of space, but this is where the bassinets fit. Row 4 is immediately forward of the coach galley and lavatories.

Economy Class is 2 X 4 X 2, 31-32", 6 degrees of back recline (and a useless 1.5 degree forward limit) with seat back IFE provided by 9" screens; the controls are in thecseatback, the server box attached to the seat bottom to allow better foot space.

Row 7 (there are no rows 5 or 6) is bulkhead here; on the -200, row 26 middle / 27 sides are exit row and close to the lavatories.

FJ will also add three more Boeing 737-800 to its current fleet of five.

Also note FJ is increasing Business checked baggage limits:

Business Customers To Enjoy Increased Baggage Allowance

From December 2015, Fiji Airways will increase baggage allowance for Business Class Customers. On all flights (except flights to/from the USA), baggage allowance for Business Class will increase from 30kg to 40kg. Further, Tabua Club members travelling in Business Class will be able to take a further 10kg on top on the 40kg allowance, meaning 50kg in total. On flights to and from the U.S., the checked baggage allowance for Business Class customers will increase from two (2) to three (3) pieces of luggage. Further, Tabua Club members travelling in Business Class will be able to check one additional piece of luggage, on top of the three-piece (3) allowance, for a total of four (4) checked pieces. Baggage allowance for Economy class customers will remain at 23kg or one (1) piece when travelling to and from the U.S.

I also thought Qantas had a code share agreement, still listed on the FJ website and can book QF ticket (FJ Metal) SYD-NAN

I appreciate the post, good information there.

QF certainly do have codeshares, they own 46% of the airline.
