That would explain Beijing and Shanghai still showing a 'Service Effective' date of 7 September.
I'm just hoping this latest delay doesn't result in the timelines slipping more than a month as I booked a Beijing flight in late October specifically to try out the new J seat.

No. No particular frame is in a captive rotation for any particular route.
Having said that, what the reentry of 9M-MTN into service does is that it enables the service of MH139/136 to ADL to begin with the new seats.
MH360/361/388/389 to PEK and PVG respectively have already been operating for the most part with the new seats since the promised introduction date of 7 September.

It's because MH used to have a previous fleet of first gen A330-300's
These came with 2 rows of F with about 60 inch pitch, (rows 1 and 2)
Followed with J - which started at row 4. There was no row 3 then.
MH eventually ripped the F seats out, replaced it with 2 rows of J and spread the rest of the rows out, but kept the numbering system.
When MH got the new gen A330's - they kept this seat numbering system (the fleets ran in parallel for a short while), in case of equipment swaps.
I guess they've just continued it with the new config.

I've had 9 rides in them so far - i'm leaning these days towards the A seats with the console on the window - the throne seats are great sitting up, but get rather narrow when reclined flat, with a claustrophobic footwell. Feels quite a bit roomier on the A side when sleeping.
- Does throne seat 1K feel as claustrophobic even though it's on the first row without the footwell?
- Do window seats 2 / 5 / 7A feel claustrophobic when the seat looks like it's very much brushing against the window at the left and wedged by the console to the right?

I'm up to 11 rides on this new config, with another 2 coming up this weekend and I'm getting the feeling these seats are a solution with too many compromises.
