Ah, thanks for the replies

I suppose I will check out the domestic lounge first and then visit the satellite lounge if I get bored well before my next flight.

I've never heard about Kapiti. Is it as good as Haagen Dazs?

Malaysia Golden Lounge KLIA

Ah speaking of kapiti - was very briefly in the MH F lounge last night and i think it's gone (didn't see the sign for it). Was in a bit of a hurry so I couldn't ask more.

questions re overnight in golden lounge

Hi all

I will be travelling in MH J regionally with an overnight connection at KLIA. I am currently OWE but will only be OWS by then.

I have read a lot of threads and so I am somewhat sure of my options, but would appreciate any corrections / updates to the following assumptions please...

1. I can access the satellite golden lounge
2. It is open 24 hours
3. There are showers
4. There are slumber chairs available
5. There is wifi and alcohol available

I guess it may be cool overnight, does anybody know if blankets are available, or should I bring warm clothes?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

The Business Class Lounge offers a sprawling dining area consisting of a few sections – the Rise & Shine deli has wide selection of pastries, bread, soups, salads and dessert; the Noodle Bar specialises in Asian noodle delicacies and the Bistro Bar serves gourmet coffee, tea and juices. Four daybed relaxation rooms with shower and disabled-friendly washroom are provided for ultimate comfort. Smoking room and Games room complete with XBox game console is readily available for passengers to chill out.

The Golden Lounge also provides facilities to meet the needs of every traveller – a business center with conference room, cloak and luggage room, Muslim prayer room, children’s play room with nursery and a sports bar. For a tranquil moment, Ayer Spa offers a good deal of spa services.

Malaysia Airlines operates three lounges in KLIA, offering an unrivalled selection of lounges, each with its own individual identity.

Meanwhile, the relocation of Golden Lounge at Penang International Airport is now completed and has re-opened for service. Similar to other domestic Golden Lounge, it is now located at the domestic terminal.

The Golden Lounge is open 24 hours to First and Business Class passengers, Platinum and Gold Enrich members, and Saphhire or above oneworld members departing or transiting in Kuala Lumpur.

*note: the massages close/end at 10pm or 11pm if I am not mistaken.

Hi,

I would be grateful for some advice on my upcoming flight on MH flying AMS-KUL-SIN in business. I will be arriving on the MH AMS flight arriving at 0700 in the morning when the Grand Prix is on. I understand from this thread there are no arrivals lounge but I can use the lounge before going landside. My plan was to have some breakfast and a shower and relax for a few hours before going to the track at Sepang via a shuttle bus later in the morning.

I have spoken with MH who said I would not be able to check my luggage at AMS through to SIN as my onward flight is not until the evening. Has anyone experienced this restriction? I am concerned that I would not be able to collect my hold luggage and that it would be not securely held. Any advice would eb welcomed.

I don't think you'll face any problems checking it straight through. MH does not have a time restriction on check in baggage as far as I'm aware, if anything, collect your bags upon arrival and just recheck in straight away in KUL.

That's absolute rubbish! Whoever is telling you this is talking absolute bollocks. You can check your bag through to SIN if you are flying MH all the way through. Even if you have two separate itineraries, they can and should be able to check you through at the check in counter and also produce BOTH boarding passes for both sectors.

I have done 5 years worth of flying on MH with these sorts of connections out of Kuala Lumpur on to other destinations on MH and always checked my bag through. And that was with a 4-6 hour transit.

I understand if you were flying 24 hours later and they not wanting to take your bag but you are essentially flying the same day and less than 12 hours.

Alternatively, IF they are going to be difficult, is to:

1) Go to the golden lounge upon landing in the main building and use the REGIONAL golden lounge facilities, have your shower and change. Go down the escalators through the immigration clearance. The regional lounge is the closest to the escalators going down to immigration. You could use the international lounge I suppose upon arrival as it will be closer to your arrival gate.
2) Go and collect your bag and proceed to the temporary baggage counter outside of the arrival hall and turn LEFT and go down to the other end of the terminal and ask them to hold your bag for a small fee for the day.
3) Go to Sepang. Come back from Sepang, collect the bag, go up to the MH business class check in and then check in the bag and show your passport and boarding pass and then proceed down to the immigration and customs x-ray check and proceed to your gate.

That would be my suggestion. If you still had time to kill, go back to the regional golden lounge which you used on your arrival in the morning.

I'd go to the satellite lounge upon arrival as I think it's better. IIRC it's the only one that serves alcohol, if that matters.

Golden Club Class is what Malaysia Airlines calls business class on all routes.

I would think flights to DPS should depart from the Satellite Terminal as like what you mentioned DPS is an international destination but im not sure.

P.S The 737-400's are very old and tired looking but well maintained. MH is currently phasing out the 737-400's to the 737-800's.
I doubt they are using the 737-400's on that route anymore. The last of those aircraft are being used on shorter regional flights (aka Phuket) rather than the longer Denpasar routes.

The 737-400's are not terribly run down but they do lack the IFS entertainment package which is disappointing but comfort wise, they are fine for a short haul flight. Seats are comfy and service is as good as normal.

Asheby, wolf72, MSPeconomist thank you for the great advice. Wolf72 thank you for the detailed directions - that will help me a great deal. MH have cancelled my evening flight to SIN and rebooked me in the last flight of the night to SIN so my transit is extended to about 16 hours. If the hold bag isn't checked through will leaving my back on the carousel while I go to the lounge on arrival cause me any issues? I am a little concerned if security of it being "abandoned " by me for a while.

Both the satellite lounge (main lounge in satellite terminal) and the regional lounge (in main terminal) serve alcohol. In the satellite lounge the bar area is in a separate section on the left as you enter the lounge, in the regional lounge the bar is alongside the F&B stations.

During Dec I spent 5 evenings in the MH lounges and aside from the time when my partner (OWE) was with me and we went to the F lounge, for some I vastly preferred the more intimate Regional Lounge to the satellite lounge.

Okey, if it is 16 hours, I would just check the bag to KUL and then collect it and just re-check the bag in at the check in counter at departure level for business class travellers before you fly.

I would not leave my bag for 16 hours whilst on transit at KLIA. Just that I feel safer it was tucked away in a bag storage area without the risk of theft of luggage items in the bag if it was 'sitting' on transit..

But then again, I am just a little bit paranoid maybe.

Agreed. The Sat lounge, when during peak periods can be very packed and busy...the regional is a smaller and a bit more 'personal.' It is just around the corner from the trains heading to the sat terminal so very easy to get to.
