What kind of spike from the UA ug policy announcement?

Rarely have I seen so many people logged into the UA forum at any given time of day or night, nor seen so many first-time posters as I have since UA's announcement.

Any stats on the usage or registration this week? A spike?

Just curious.

I'll try to get an answer to this later today. Interesting that you bring it up, it caught my attention as well and I actually made an InsideFlyer editorial about it for the November issue. Key: it's not just a UA thing, look at it being talked about in the SkyMiles forum, the AAdvantage forum and the OnePass forum. Rarely has a change or topic like this become so widely viewed. Only place it seems to be a bit lukewarm at ... the US Airways forum.

Comment to come and thanks for the question.

OK, looked at some stats and here's what i have found.

Basically 56 FlyerTalkers who were members well before the United "Unlimited Upgrades" announcement was made posted for the first time within the United Mileage Plus forum.

As for an onslaught of new members ... it's in our imagination. New members Mon.-Wed. was 619. Last week new members Mon.-Wed. (before any news of the United announcement) was 647 for the same three days. and one month ago, new members for same period, Mon.-Wed. was 608. So we're pretty consistent and it looks like many of our new posters were just happy to lurk with us and then seeing this were prompted to actually post something. But there is more. Last month with similar new members during those three days, 81 of the 608 posted right away during those three days. This week, likely because of the United announcement, even though there was no real jump in new member enrollments, 146 of the 619 posted right away.

So, there you have it -- no new jump in new members, but those who were existing members did see something they wanted to post about for the first time.

Again, very observational!

Interesting. My observation was based on seeing (much) longer than usual lists of 'Currently Active Users' in the UA forum. I suppose it makes sense that the announcement brought many folks who are registered but not super-active participants back for a look-see.

Thanks for taking a look!

Yes, at one time on Tuesday there were over 800 currently active users in the United forum with it being an average that day, including lurkers of just over 600 concurrently all day long. I think it was the news that brought more of the infrequent (already registered) members to come take a look. That of course is what FlyerTalk is a great resource for -- when you need to know the news, we'll have it.

The news that I am curious about is YOUR analysis about the new UDU policy.

I haven't been following the thread in UA because its too much to wade through, but I'm assuming this is because they'll be integrating UA/CO upgrades pretty soon like the CO/NW partnership. At least when they did that, NW gave Plats 1K miles for sitting in the back.

My guess is that the UA F product will slowly deteriorate - but that's speculation for another thread!
