Missing letter in name for expedia eticket

Hellow everyone,

I would appreciate your advice on an eticket issue with expedia/emirates air.

I booked a ticket today for my Dad in India to visit me in U.S. I booked it through Expedia booking agent over phone for Emirates airline. When the eticket was confirmed it was missing one letter from first name.
For example,
The the name was like
First Name(6 letters) : THOMAS
Last Name(19 including space) : JOHNSONMARIA JOSEPH
(Actual name is different, but the number of letters is the same as above).
Once the eticket was issued, the last letter was missing from the firstname
It read "THOMA" instead of THOMAS. Last name read "JOHNSONMARIAJOSEPH" with no space. I talked to expedia who said they will address it with Airline and after talking to airline, they said it was corrected. I called airline to verify, but they informed me that they had advised Expedia to reissue the ticket with correct name.

I requested expedia to cancel the ticket and assuming it was a mistake from the booking agent, I used expedia online reservation system. In the traveler information, the names are correct, but again after booking the ticket, the name on the eticket and on the airline site is missing the last letter of the first name. This time Expedia said it is an expedia computer system limitation, and they cannot be correct the name but they will inform the airline to put a note.

My question : Now I understand expedia will not be able to properly transfer the name from their system to the airline's system due to the long last name.

Does anyone know if travelocity or orbitz have this limitation? If not I am thinking of canceling again and booking through one of them. I have only 24 hours to cancel with $14 charge.

Also do you think the missing letter is a big issue? This is an international flight, my father is old and don't speak much English. So I would like the journey to be as trouble free as possible.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

No, I don't think you should worry either. This is a known issue with Expedia, and I suppose hundreds of people travel with these strange names on tickets issued by them every single day.

I am sorry to use this thread but i have a simmilar problem.

i've booked some flights to travel inside India from a www.edreams.com. My name is Mario Correia de Sa and i used the name Mario (as first name) and Correia Sa (as surnames) and the e-tickets came as CORREIASA / MARIO (with no space). Do you think i will have problems boarding this flights?

Notice that the "de" between "Correia de Sa" isn't realy a surname but a linking name, like "Bin" or "of". Thats why i omitted it.

i know that the missing space is no problem, but i'm now more worried about the omitted "de".

Do you think i'll have problems boarding this flights?
