I tried to book a hotel room in hong kong on agoda.com. Right when I clicked on it, the price went up. Is there anyway agoda can honor the older price?
First time using Agoda and booked some hotels with them for a trip a few months away. I double and triple checked all of the reservations before making them that they were refundable. All said free cancellation. After the reservations were made and vouchers were sent I even e-mailed Agoda to confirm that there would be no charge for cancellation.
Today I checked my cc statement and I have been charged the full amount on all of the hotels. Is this normal for Agoda? I specifically did not want a pre-pay rate. I e-mailed them a few days ago to clear this up, but no response yet.
Not sure about the specifics of your case, but in general, there are a number of hotel booking sites that advertise that they do not charge cancellation fees. The catch is that even though the booking site company may not charge a cancellation fee, that does not necessarily mean that the hotel itself also doesn't charge a cancellation fee. In my experience, most hotels will charge a cancellation fee unless you were canceling a "flexible" reservation. Flexible reservations generally involve much higher daily rates for the same room (in other words, if at the time you make the reservation you are willing to commit to being charged a fee in the event of cancellation, the daily rate will be discounted).
Agoda is kinda sketchy. I still use them a lot. They're the cheapest usually. I check 1st with Hotels Combined and if Expedia or some other competitor is close - I use them instead. wj
Cancellation policies and customer service. There's a reason Agoda is usually cheaper. Like I said, I still use them a lot, but if say Hotels.com or Orbitz was close in price - I'd go that route. wj
Has anyone from the US used agoda before? It looks like agoda is based outside the US. If I use American credit card such as AMEX, will I get changed any international transaction fee or foreign exchange fee?

Thanks in advance,
I've used Agoda multiple times (from the US). Whether or not you get charged a forex fee or international transaction fee is dependent entirely on your credit card issuer, AFAIK.
I used Agoda most recently in March. My credit card charges a forex fee. Agoda has never done any kind of oddball shenanigans (charge in dollars, convert to local currency, my card reconverts to dollars, charges adding up, etc.).
However...be careful. IIRC, if you're not careful, when you click through you are actually booking - can't remember the details, but unlike most airlines, for example, that put you through multiple screens before you actually are committed, it seems to me that Agoda doesn't. Someone has posted on this forum somewhere about accidentally booking a room when he was just trying to get the total amount.
I'd also do a bit more comparison. I'm going to next time. I've stayed at the same property multiple times in BKK, always booked through Agoda, but the last two times, the hotel had excuses why the type of room I had booked was unavailable. Bit of a fuss, and I ended up in less desirable rooms.

I think it will depend on which card you use, but I did not get hit with forex fees when using an Amex Premier Rewards Gold or a Citi AAdvantage card when I booked with them in 2010. Showed up on statement as Agoda Netherlands

Thank you all for your replies! That's very helpful. I just called my credit card company. I have AMEX costco card and there is a 2.75% foreign currency conversion fee. However, I was told that as long as agodo charges me in USD instead of local currency, then I won't be charged for any foreign currency conversion fee.
Does anybody know if agodo will charge US customers in USD?
I just booked a hotel room in Dubai and another in Vientiane, both using Agoda. I noticed on the confirmation voucher it says:
" Important- At check-in you must use the credit card used to make this booking and a valid photo id with the same name. Failure to do so may result in the hotel requesting additional payment or your reservation not being honored."
Well i was going to leave this credit card with my brother in back in the USA so he can use it for the small biz saturday promo (it's an amex card). Do you think i would have a problem with Agoda, or the hotel, if i don't have the credit card i used to make the reservation with me? I, of course, have other credit cards and a valid photo id.
