info about upside.com

Hi all, not sure where to post this. but I heard on the radio about upside.com anyone here heard of it, used it. thoughts on this.
the idea is you book through them hotel and flight and you get a gift card.

seems like they don't have all the airlines or hotels, but I want to hear what the good folks here have to say.

thanks.

I just looked at the website, which is still in Beta mode. It appears to be for online booking, so I am going to move this thread over to the Online Booking Forum.
Please follow there.
Thanks..

I have several trips booked through them. So far so good, although their website is really, really, bad. Their owners have a good track record.

My trips are in Sept and Oct, so I will not know until then if any issues arise, but they are in my FF airline account.

would be interested to hear what booking class you get and miles in comparison. also where the prices comparable to what you get from your airline and hotel.

too bad they only have 3 airlines so far.

Alaska Airlines fare class R, so I assume I will earn full miles. As far as pricing, I am actually earning money on these trips using coupon code, and getting an amazon gift card.

If you use a referral code, you get $100 off. This is in addition to the free $100 gift card. The minimum is $400.

So for a $400 flight, you are essentially getting it at half price for your first order. You can get the referral codes from the conga thread here:
Upside.com Referral Code Conga: $100 off + $25 gift card for referral

The $400 minimum is new. They caught on pretty quickly to that.

Sorry for stupid question, but what are "bulk fares"? Does that mean no QM's?

I received an advert today for WSJ Travel, which seems to be Upside Travel

Do they have contract biz fares that are better than published fares?

Do they only do flights originating in the US? I tried today from Madrid (my home) and Barcelona (possible) and it "did not recognize this city," Hmm. Experts indeed!

Bumping this thread. Any recent experiences? A colleague loves it for the gift cards, but I'm not sure how it would impact hotel experience (they tend to not like it if you don't book through them) or flights (does it book you in basic economy?).
