I will start with the GOOD NEWS first which is that the Qantas, British Airways & One World Alliance are having a sale to celebrate their round world product being around for 10 years and have reduced all their prices by a whopping 10 PERCENT which means possible savings of up to nearly $2,000 a person! This sale starts from 0800 Hours AEST on the 1st February. Click here for full details.
But it's ex-Australia, sold through that travel agent only as far as I can tell. I can't immediately find anything for anywhere else, so it would still be cheaper to book through AA ex-Korea, for example, even including the cost of getting there (for J&F at least).

Thanks!
Seems like a good deal for people like me based in Singapore and want to do a LONE*
ex-SIN is way too expensive at $5365 SGD for a LONE4
ex-ICN would be 3,486,700 KRW or about $3800 SGD for a LONE4. Add in perhaps $600 for a economy flight to korea, and you end up at $4400
ex-Perth on the other hand, if based on the promo (peak period) is at $3339 AUD or $3339 SGD (exchange rate around the same right now). For someone on a tight budget like me, Tiger Airways offers a one way flight to perth for $200-$300 including taxes.
Seems like a pretty good deal on my side, even more if I fly the LONE4 non peak.
Edit : Not sure if they alllow ticketing via AA since the 1st flight has to be Qantas? The extra fuel surcharge might outweight the benefits then...
First flight with QF (or CX for that matter) is not a prohibition for ticketing on AA. I have done it twice and working on numbers 3 & 4. However I am asking my TA if it is limited to qf/ba ticket stock.
Seems they would make up the difference in their higher fuel fines.....
Or am I too cyncial?
I spoke with an AA agent in the US and he told me to wait to book my ticket until Feb 1st. He said that there was a 10% discount coming. I stated to him I would be booking in the UK for the cheaper costs. He said it would be a 10% discount across the board.

Reason: routing advice for the other thread

Can anyone else confirm this? I just had an unusual conversation with an AA Agent. It went something like this:
Me: Are the rumors true that there is a 10% discount coming Feb. 1?
Agent: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Me: Oh, so no discount coming?
Agent: You shouldn't be asking me that.
Me: Okay, I understand if you cannot talk about it.
Agent: Where did you hear about this discount?
Me: It's all over the internet.
Agent: What, FlyerTalk?
Me: Yes.
The agent was not rude in any way, it was just really strange and left me far from comfortable about any sort of "confirmation." I'm just really paranoid about prices going up (mirroring the *A increase) since I am looking to buy an AONE5 which I could buy today but I'm thinking of waiting until Feb. 1. I just don't want that decision to come back to haunt me. On the flipside, maybe it is true, AA found out the word is out on FT, and agents have been more forcefully instructed to not talk about it.
Here's a question:
Is it possible to "lock in" the price today by booking before Feb. 1 but having them "hold" it to pay on Feb. 2... but then if Feb. 1 rolls around I have them "start over" or basically stop back-dating the itin and date it Feb. 1 to get the lower price. You think they'll be amenable to that, or view it as too much of gaming the system.
I was told by the AA RTW desk that you have 24 hours to purchase a ticket at the price quoted due to daily currency changes. That's the risk one takes with the various prices. Just look at what happened last summer when the ZAR varied by 3 ZAR within 3 weeks. Similiar situation last winter when the JPY had some wild daily swings.
You also forgot the rule of FT, do NOT call the airline. Many a good deal has gone bust that way.
Does anyone know if the 10% discount applies to *GLOB* fares as well?
No - it's the "continent fare":

TA has confirmed that 10% is available for bookings made on/after 01 Feb. Which means my current booking for Mrs WF will need to canceled and re-booked. Shouldn't be a problem since first flight is 19 May.
Now the question is - can I work out a routing for my flights in October?
And is that far enough in advance to ensure the EVIPs immediately apply?
Happy wandering
I just called Bestfares.com.au and spoke to an agent their, and this 10% off deal seems to be real. It is only ex Australia if booked with them and they can not issue the tickets at this time, only after February 1st, 2009. They took my booking, quoted a fare, and then asked for a deposit of AUD 300. I went ahead and did it..They are supposed to send me the itinerary and call me for the full payment when the contract goes into effect on Monday

You have to love the T&C's on this
Just got a note back from my corporate travel agent as i'm looking into trips home under my relocation agreement:
Hi ACN Consultant
We have been advised the OneWorld is having their 10 year Celebration Airfares (10% off OneWorld fares products for 10 weeks.)
Reservation made and must ticketed between 01 February and 12 April 2009 for travel between these dates only.
In other words book, pay and travel within the 10 week period.
Thanks

Well that sucks...I had been trying to convince them to give me a RTW from SYD to east coast USA in June, but it doesn't look like it will be cost effective.
