I personally feel that if one has a long layover at LHR before the flight to HKG the BA T5 lounge is SO much superior to T3 or T4, it is really worth it for me to take BA.....And I agree with above poster that the inflight BA service is really excellent....
So even if you end up with the old CX seat you still have a better product.
If you get the old CX 744, expect the F seat to jam. My 1A did so and it took me and the male FA to wrestle it into submission- the girls were useless - just wringing their hands and saying "sorry". Painful, but it was worth $250 in duty free vouchers for the trouble. Better still, avoid the old CX aircraft at all cost.

Because one seat jammed once, we now should expect that all old CX F seats will jam?

Actually, on this flight, 3A also jammed (but was unjammed more easily than 1A). 1K was starting to jam as well but freed itself with a loud "clunk". So, from a cabin of 12 seats, 3 seats were problematic. This I feel is a reasonable reason why I indicated that you should expect the seats in the 74J to jam.

I'd agree that if you're basing your decision solely on hardware, CX is the one to go for with new F, and just slightly edges out QF and BA with old F.
Won't get into an extended debate about service and catering now.
I just completed a RTW on the 3 airlines in FIRST. I have to admit that CX impressed me the most (the seat and the service and the catering) then came QF and BA first did not impressed me at all. They have the worst seating amongst the three airlines. Eventhough I flew BA first but I did not felt any excitement.
For business class, two relevant questions are: how big are you (height and width - some configs are too short (BA) or too narrow (CX) for large people), and are you travelling alone (or happy to be so in effect)?

Straight through on a DPS-HKG-LHR-MCT connection...debating the HKG-LHR segement.
"Normal" American size or "normal" Asian size? Huge difference. Many "normal" American size males will find the CX partitions too close together for their shoulders. And anyone much over 6' tall may find the BA bed too short to stretch out flat.
But for a family I would rule out CX new J (and nearly all HKG-LHR flights are new J these days) on the grounds of no seats together.
