Luggage allowance for journey with 2 x booking (BA and CX)
Hi FT forums,
First post here but in need of help:
I'm due to fly to Australia in Dec with some stop overs.
Currently this has been booked as two bookings
1 x BA and 1 x CA
Does the most significant carrier rule apply?
http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_G...r-journey.html
If not, why not? Are there special provisions based on both being one world alliance?
11 DEC - BA5 - LHR to NRT (business)
13 DEC - CX505 - NRT to HKG
13 DEC - CX101 - HKG to SYD
03 JAN - CX100 - SYD to HKG
03 JAN - CX524 - HKG - NRT
03 JAN - BA6 NRT to LHR (business)
Thanks
KTOL

KTOL Welcome to FT
My guess is BA LHR-NRT & NRT-LHR in business is 1 PNR/1 ticket/1 booking.
And the others are a separate PNR/ticket in economy
If this is the case most significant carrier rule does not apply as they are separate reservations
OW has extra an baggage allowance for emerald status.

Hi All,
apologies for the delay - did not have notifications set up!
CX = Cathay
BA = British Airways
BA LHR-NRT & NRT-LHR in business is 1 PNR/1 ticket/1 booking is correct
And the CX flight is NRT-SYD transit via HKG & SYD-NRT transit via HKG on a separate PNR/ticket in economy.
Judging from responses so far, fair to say that there is little that can be done to address this?
Thanks

Separate bookings, separate allowances.
Since you have a stopover at NRT outbound, you won't be able to check luggage through from LHR to SYD in the hope that BA ignores the CX economy allowance.
On the way back, you should be able to check your luggage through from SYD-LHR, but your CX economy allowance would apply.
Also if you are delayed on the SYD-HKG-NRT segments causing you to miss your BA flight you would not be re-accommodated since you're on separate bookings.
I assume your CX100 flight is on 2/Jan or CX524/BA6 is on 4/Jan.
