IONE - a new round the world product??

IONE3

There's a new version of the Oneworld Explorer rule sheet - dated 30-June-2014
(yet to study it in detail)
but I'm seeing a new product called an IONE3
It's showing in ExpertFlyer too

It appears that the only differences between a DONE3 and an IONE3 are:
  • They use different booking codes
  • The IONE3 appears to be only for intineraries orignating in the USA
  • The base fare of the IONE3 is USD1,663 less than the DONE3 (USD9643 instead of USD11306)

In ExpertFlyer I have tried various starting points (NYC, YYZ, MEX, NAS, BDA, LON and CAI) and the IONE3 fare only appears for NYC

It's been around for a few months, having been added just after UL joined.

It's a discounted and slightly more restricted DONE, aimed to compete with a similar discounted business class star alliance RTW product.

Oh, OK

They must just have decided to include it in the Oneworld Explorer fare rules (it was not there in the on-line May-2014 version)

So is it ex-US only? If so, any idea why that should be?

And by 'more restricted' - is that the booking codes it uses (I's and Z's mainly rather than the usual D's)? I don't see anything else in the fare rules to distinguish between them.

Both IONE3 & DONE3 share the same Fare Rules.
Only the Booking Classes are different:

As a thrifty user of I-class fares whenever they're available I can assure you that they seem to be hugely less available than D (because they're ad hoc "sale" fares that come and go and hugely less expensive than D). D is "always" available unless an airline thinks it can sell all the remaining seats at J prices.

Looking at the rules from Expertflyer, I read it as including other areas as a starting point sans AUS/NZ - "black letter law" as a lawyer might say. Of course they could ignore what they wrote and reject it anyway.

It appears that the only differences between a DONE3 and an IONE3 are:
•They use different booking codes
•The IONE3 appears to be only for intineraries orignating in the USA
The base fare of the IONE3 is USD1,663 less than the DONE3 (USD9643 instead of USD11306)

In ExpertFlyer I have tried various starting points (NYC, YYZ, MEX, NAS, BDA, LON and CAI) and the IONE3 fare only appears for NYC
I also just checked and received this result from EF ex-JFK:

Jerry's figures are correct (and mine are wrong - my default currency in EF is AUD and I forgot to change it, so my figures are the prices converted to AUD)
