Just flown a couple of flights with UL. Quite a disaster airline.

It took them 30+ minutes to check me in due to poor understanding of how their own systems work.

On board people move all around C cabin and change the seats even before doors are closed.

Constant flow of pax from Y into C cabin to talk to their friends and use C lavs.

I only wanted to sleep but no, has been waken up and asked if I wanted to eat

A friend on another UL flight had very similar experience.

So may be OK if you get it very cheap and keep your expectations very low. But don't expect proper C experience - you get what you paid for and even less.

That's not exactly a "disaster". Maybe you should temper your expectations a bit when flying on a south Asian airline.

what go you mean by that

last time I flew in south Asia the aircraft were cleaner just like the airports were, not to mention more efficient then any domestic flight in the United States

no he should complain for the bad service

"Quite a disaster airline." That's a bit more than a "complaint", don't you think?

That's because UL is a disaster in my book. I'm paying for my F and C travel out of my pocket and any airline that : stresses me for 30+ minutes in CMB heat at check-in, do not respect paying C customers by allowing Y people to wander around C cabin and not even able to understand that a pax would prefer to sleep when one acutally have a blanket, eye mask and ear plugs on - is a clear disaster.

So I think that it's good to share the "performance" of this new OW entry with fellow travellers. When you know what to expect - you will be less dissapointed.

Perhaps you had an outlier. Other UL inflight experiences.

It may be the case, trough I highly doubt it. A friend of mine flown UL recently and his experience was exactly the same (actually, even worse) then mine.

UL are certainly "friendly" - but this is a friendliness that boarders on being unprofessional. While I may enjoy this type of "friendly" attitude in a rundown bar in CMB, on the aircraft I would prefer someone acting as a pro.

The very least you can expect is that Y pax are not allowed into C. UL is so friendly that everyone is welcome to come, stay for a chat, use the laws - you get the picture.

Same story at check-in - lots of smiles but takes 30+ minutes. I'd rather have 2 minutes time and no smiles, thank you.

I realise that everybody's expectations are different and for some people some food and a smile equals to great experience.

I personally prefer stay comfortable and to deal with professionals when travel - and UL is very far from providing any

The future game plan is simple: don't fly UL. I wonder what you would call a true disaster involving UL. You've already used up with hyperbole and exaggeration the most apt term.

Too friendly to Y passengers - they should be treated like low class citizens
Waking you to see if you'd like food service - absolutely unforgiveable
Smiling at you but taking 30 minutes to check you in - total incompetance

Have you actually been to a rundown bar in CMB? I highly doubt it.

It's fun to see people resorting to cheap sensationalism when they are out of arguments - "second class citizen" stuff is a classic example. I said that Y pax should stay in the cabin they paid for and not be allowed to wander around C. If you would like to be in higher cabin - pay for it, and you will have all the rights to be there.

Anyway, my scope was to share the UL experience with the rest of OW flyers, that's it.

The discussion is over, you are right :-)

I have had one not so good flight with UL, but all the rest have been remarkably good and with outstanding service. food is also quite tasty.

pax moving around the C cabin is normal for UL (as in plenty of changing seats amongst C pax, many of whom are actually UL security), but as a paying passenger you are usually offered to 'sit anywhere' or to move to a quieter part of the cabin.

if Y class passengers are coming through the cabin you just need to have a word with the crew and they'll stop it. I know some people would argue that it is not the job of the passenger to to that, but hey, I've had it on other airlines like Lufthansa and qantas as well. it sometimes happens and if the crew are aware they'll be vigilant.

on my last flight a C class pax was unwell and spending a lot of time (most of the flight) in the toilet... if any other biz class pax was waiting then a crew member would escort them to a Y lavatory, jump the queue, go in and tidy the toilet, and then let the C class pax in. that's what I call service!

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to whether you'll be able to redeem Oneworld miles by Feb 1?

I'm guessing pretty slim, but since SQ just canceled there morning flight to Male, I"m scrambling to avoid losing a day on the island.

I think we'll have a clearer idea at Qatar's joining ceremony rumored to be in October. UL executives stated they would presumabily be ready to join in early 2014 but now it's impossible to make an exact prediction

Oneworld normally issues join date press releases about 6 weeks before a new member joins.
