Since it's under 500 miles from MLE-CMB, does anyone have a guess as to how much a one way MLE-CMB in business class would be using Avios after it joins One World?

This question is best asked in the BAEC forum, as the answer is specific to the rules of the BA program
But I expect the Avios needed would the same as for a flight of the same distance with any other OW airline

And BTW - BA itself starts flying MLE-CMB-MLE from 15 April - three times a week as a tag onto its LGW-MLE flight

As oneworld is/was very poor between Europe and Asia , or within Asia, it's a good move that MH,UL and QR join.
*aliance has much more presence with LH,LX,OS,TG and SQ ( + all these Chinese and Japanese airlines ), specially between Europe and S.E.A.. And after the sun has gone down over BD, and BA swallowed my 3 million miles and changed them to ADIOS, I have some hope we can use them sooner or later on these new ow members.

It would depend on the rules of UL's FlySmiLes program.

Generally, yes. One of the basic elements of an alliance is that you can earn and redeem awards on partner airlines. There may be restrictions on the class of service and on availability, but you should have some options.

A more descriptive thread title would be helpful.

I'm merging this thread with the existing thread regarding UL's entry into the alliance.

SriLankan's intention is to fly to Australia

From the SriLankan web site - see here

The airline opened an office in Melbourne on 21 June
The web site stated
This is an important first step in our efforts to start direct flights to Australia

Only UL can answer this...but you can guess that you will be able to use those on, say, all OneWorld with 99% certainty.

It's worth pointing out that UL did fly to MEL in a past life with an L1011. There is also a sizeable Srilankan population in MEL too.
