What is up with Oklahoma being 0-5 in last 5 BCS games. They are out Ohio State-ing Ohio State. That is not good.
Final comment is that it was criminal that OU went to Big 12 Championship (and BCS Title game because MO was a joke as Big 12 Title game opponent) over TX. Double digit victory in head to head game on a neutral field? Give me a break. TX should have gone. Under SEC tie breaking rules, TX would have gone. Only redemption for TX must have been watching OU go down in flames after they had beaten Ohio St. Good for TX.
Well, let's just say that the cream rose to the top of the Big 12 South at the end of the CFB season. And, an additional item of redemption was being ranked above the Sooners in all the final polls.

SEC #5, Vanderbilt, beats ACC #2 and ACC Title game participant Boston College.
I believe the answer to continued SEC domination is 'yes'.
When Vanderbilt wins a bowl game for the first time since the Eisenhower Administration, you've got a pretty strong conference. I'm just waiting for Tennessee to hold up its end.

When six stinking win makes one bowl eligible
When most everyone starts out with 4 wins due to patsy non cons
When you only need two wins in conference to be bowl eligible
of course almost every team in the conference will qualify for a bowl
of course if you have enough teams in the bowls, you will set records for number of wins eventually

Sorry, Trojan, but I have to say that USC fans win hands down: IMO, no other fans talk smack like Trojans fans and no other fans whine like Trojans fans!
And, I'm not restricting that statement to just college football or football -- I'm talking about all sports, all levels of play!
along with the granting of a sixth year to Josh Pinkard (CB) and Taylor Mays coming back, that has to help a Defense that was going to lose 10 out of 11 starters.. now its only 8 starters gone.. every little bit helps
the rumor mill has it though that Mark Sanchez will go pro; a bummer for me but overall I think the next Gatorade POY either Mitch Mustain (2005), Matt Barkley (2007) or CIF POY 2006 Aaron Corp will be more than adequate as a replacement. 9 (assuming Sanchez goes pro) of 11 starters are back on Offense which will have to carry the D for a while
Does the Red River Shootout, Texas vs. OU, move to the new Arlington "House that Jerry Jones Built" or stay at the Cotton Bowl in 2009?
The Red River Gunplay will remain at the Cotton Bowl, AKA "The House That Laura Miller Screwed Up", through 2015. After that, there are three possible scenarios for its future.
- It could move to JerryWorld. That would depend on whether or not the Cotton Bowl Classic attains BCS status, which is why the game is moving to Arlington.
Since the breakup of the SWC, and the Fiesta's incursion into major bowl status, the Classic's leadership have felt that two things have hindered them from returning to what they believe is their rightful place among the elite - Dallas weather in January, and the Cotton Bowl facilities themselves. See: Notre Dame vs. Houston, 1979. The downgrading of the Classic has made them desperate.
I recall hearing one of the Classic's leaders mention on TV a while back that they talked to the BCS leadership about what was necessary for consideration for a BCS bowl and the primary criteria was Super Bowl-type stadium facilities and if not a dome, favorable weather. All of the current sites have something that meets this criteria, and next year, so will the Classic.
However, since the new TV deal with ESPN will not end until after the 2013-2014 season, the Classic wouldn't get a chance to "belong" again until New Year's of 2015 at the earliest.
Of course, we don't know whether a playoff structure will be in place for the 2014-2015 season, or if the BCS will revise the current format or simply leave things as they are, or if the BCS will even exist. Also in doubt is NOLA and whether its viability as a host site post-Katrina will be proven to the BCS' satisfaction. That could open the door for the Classic, but they will be in competition with at very least the Cap One and Gator Bowls, who have the same aspirations.
JerryWorld hosting a BCS game could sway the schools to move the game to Arlington. He's got everyone except NASCAR holding events there so far, and he is working to get other schools to choose the stadium as a neutral site for a few games. Even if the Classic doesn't attain BCS status, the facility alone may be attractive enough to both teams to prompt them to move the game.
(Ironically, JerryWorld could have been built on the Cotton Bowl site, and he gave the city the right of first refusal, but the Mayor at the time didn't want taxpayer money used to fund the stadium, pretty much claiming that it wasn't worth it. With the Super Bowl coming to the area, it's going to be nightmarish, IMHO, to hold game-related events in Dallas and stage the game in Arlington.)
- The City of Dallas could extend the contract. This means they would have to pony up more moolah to the teams. At present, this figure is in the neighborhood of $850K, due in part to a redistribution of the annual $700K subsidy the city formerly gave to the Classic. (Before the new contract was signed in April 2007, this figure was approximately $250K.)
With an annual economic impact to the city of some $17M, you would think the pot will be sweetened somewhat.
- The game could change to the much-debated Home-and-Home series. By the end of the current contract, DKR could have its final phase of expansion completed, putting its capacity at a projected 112,000, which would be larger than Penn State's Beaver Stadium (107,282). Hosting the game every other year would be attractive to both schools, especially Texas given the expansion.
My guess is that the game moves after 2015. Maybe we can have an Implosion Do to watch the Cotton Bowl fall.

Many thanks for the overview, studley. I was going to research this myself, so thanks for saving me the time.

This would be my best guess at where it will end up after 2015. The Classic will have found its second home and Jerry will make some concessions to hold additional football events there.

Sorry. The City of Dallas already screwed the pooch on that deal, IMHO. Their best shot now is to try and attract some other regional rivalry games whose capacities are more in line with the current facilities.

While this would be a boon to both local economies - Norman and Austin - I don't see it being a viable option until the Sooners can seat 112,000+ themselves.

Maybe they could move the Baylor Washington State series there permanently.. that would be about right

LOL. Look for Baylor's status to rise in the next year or so. WSU, not so much, I hear.
I had in mind something like the Texas Southern University vs. Arkansas - Pine Bluff series that is already played in the Cotton Bowl in late November. TSU also has games with Grambling State and Prairie View A&M that might be eligible as well, but I'm not sure that any one team would want to have three neutral-site games in one season, unless of course they can make more money doing so.
But, there have to be a host of other smaller, but very intense rivalry games that the City of Dallas could attract. Heck, they might even be able to host one a week for all twelve weeks of the regular season, but they would have to first identify and then lure the rivalries to play there. However, the way they overlooked Texas/OU weekend at the Cotton Bowl, I'm not sure they have the ability/gumption to be that foresightful/aggressive in doing what it takes to pull it off.

Quarterback Sam Bradford is expected to announce that he will return to Oklahoma next season, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.
Bradford was expected to announce his decision at a 5:30 p.m. ET press conference Wednesday.
Offensive tackle Trent Williams, who said Wednesday that he would return to the Sooners next season, said he believes Bradford will return.
"My gut feeling is that Sam is coming back," said Williams, who spoke with Bradford. "The entire state may be very happy."
Kent Bradford, Sam's father, said that his son's decision will be based on what is in his best "long-term" interests.
Williams, 6-foot-5, 308 pounds, graded out as Oklahoma's best offensive lineman throughout this season, according to coaches.
"I just want to win," Williams said. "I have been left with a sour taste in my mouth. Not a lot of people win a championship and I want to win a championship. I also promised my mom I would graduate. And I think I can improve my draft stock."
Defensive lineman Gerald McCoy has already announced he will return. Tight end Jermaine Greshman has been leaning toward entering the NFL draft.
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has seen many players throughout his career return when they could have turned pro.

I think there are 10 to 1 odds that he's staying. While he probably has the best pro skills of any of the underclassmen QB's that could have left early, he's probably not emotionally ready to make that jump. That's not a bad thing, IMHO. I wish Vince Young had stayed at Texas for much the same reason, but, IMHO, he wasn't listening to the right people when he made his decision.

So, they'll have three seniors coming back now on the OL...Williams, Lepak, and Simmons. Of the three, I think only Williams was a starter. Since they lost 5 senior OL's this year and their back-ups will be mostly sophomores and red-shirt freshmen, I hope Sam buys a good insurance policy. LOL.

McCoy and Gresham are about as good as you can find at their position in the Big 12. I would love to see Gresham make the jump. Oklahoma's vaunted offense would be like a toothless lion if that happened, even if Bradford returns.
