Tweeter Closing All Stores/Circuit City Closing 150 stores
I stopped by a Tweeter store today to price TV's. I was told by a salesperson, that I had done business with for 8 years, that they were liquidating and closing all stores. It was a slow time at the store today. All salesfolks were on Career Builder or Monster looking for work.
They will close right around Dec 25. Advertising of this will be begin later this week.
I really liked that store. Good, knowledgable sales people and higher end products that you cannot get from Best Buy or Circuit City.
This is on the heels of Circuit City's announcement of closing 150 stores.
I am thankful to have a job right now. It be horrible to be in the job market.

i was about to start a thread on this.
anyone got tips on what the best items to stock up on would be? even potentially for resale? i think i'm setting myself up for disappointment because stuff will probably only be marked down 5% or 10%, but i've got hope...
Definitely. Fill out your FAFSA right away, even if you're undecided. The sooner you file the better your chances of getting aid (whether federal or private money) when you need it.

Really, nothing.
The liquidation will probably be done by Gordon Brothers, who have done every major closing in the past couple of years for chains like CompUSA, Linens and Things and more.
They'll start by marking everything up 25%, then every week things will drop 5%. Eventually they'll find a sucker for everything.
If you are VERY savvy, you'll be able to pick up deals, but you are up against 100's of others with a lot of experience in this, including many resellers and ebay pros.
When CompUSA shut down, I was there every Wednesday morning (when they raised the discounts). I spent about $8000, and sold it all for about 3 times that much. There is money to be made, but you need to know what you are doing. Also, the "no exchanges/returns" policy is a KILLER. You will need to be very careful with everything you buy.
I suggest bringing a smartphone and doing online price checks and comparing on ebay if you plan to make some money with reselling.

Just read something yesterday about the 3rd quarter slow sale in general. Holidays sales/discount kick off early, hoping to generate more sales. If things don't pick up soon, it's predicted Circuit City be the next one to close the stores.
I stopped by our local Linens 'N Things tonight. Their clearance "sale" started a couple weeks ago. I thought they might have some reduced prices on a few items that we purchase a few times per year. Instead, the price was just 10% off. In fact, I'd say that MOST of the store's items are only about 10% off.
But if I went over to the Bed Bath and Beyond in the next block over, then I could use a 20% off coupon and have the ability to return the item, if needed.
I don't find many going-out-of-business sales to be very worthwhile.
No Circuit City stores in SC are on the list to close.
I have been pricing many things that I am interested in the past month so that when the holiday purchases start I will have a decent estimation of the fair market value of these goods
I will use the CCs of the world to at least keep the best buys etc in check at least I hope it will
if the price is within ten percent I will go to the store that I know I can make a return or exchange unless its something truly cheap and/or disposable
more than ten percent and then I need to make a calculated risk
It's pretty hard to find good deals at these types of things. When CompUSA went down I tried several times, but I never found anything I couldn't get cheaper online. The Circuit City near me is now at the "Everything 10-30% off!" stage, and I'm wondering if I should even bother.

When the CompUSA closed here a year or so ago, they started with the small discounts as well, with small increments every few days. When it finally got to the 50% off and better, nothing but junk was left, and by that time, it seemed to be mostly furnishings anyways. Most of the good new merchandise had been bought around the 20-30% off stage.
I could have done just as well with a weekly sales circular. Pass.
