Wimbledon remains one of the very few major UK sporting events for which one can still buy premium tickets on the day of play.
Ticket Availability
Approximately 500 tickets for each of the Centre (except for the last 4 days), No.1 and No.2 Courts, are daily reserved for sale at the turnstiles.
Roughly 6000 Ground Admission tickets are available each day for entry to the Grounds including the No.2 Court standing enclosure and unreserved seating and standing on Courts 3–19. This number may vary depending on the number of people already in the grounds, the number of courts in play and the weather.
Joining the Queue
There are two queues for the turnstiles at Gate 3, one from the north and one from the south. Each queue has an equal allocation of tickets for Centre Court, No. 1 Court, No. 2 Court and Ground Admission. Please note that the queues can be extremely long.
For a ground pass, it is usually necessary to join the queue several hours before the grounds open. For a show court ticket, many people choose to queue overnight to maximise their chances of being able to purchase a ticket for Centre, No.1 or No.2 Court.
Wristbands, marked by court and with a detachable 'court' tally, will be offered to queuers according to the number of show court tickets available. On reaching the entrance kiosk, the tally must be detached and handed to the cashier who will issue one ticket for the court on the tally.
Tickets are sold strictly on the basis of one per person and payment is by CASH ONLY.
Ground Opening and Closing Times
The grounds are open daily from 10.30am until one hour after close of play (no later than 10.00pm).
Total prize money at Wimbledon this year will be nearly 9% more than in 2006, with the male and female singles champions each winning £700,000.
The overall fund for the 25 June-8 July tournament will be £11,282,710 - 8.7% up on last year's figure.
"No tennis tournament has ever offered higher prize money than Wimbledon in 2007," claimed Tim Phillips, chairman of organisers the All England Club.
Equal rewards for men and women at Wimbledon were announced in February.
Subject to final testing, Hawk-eye technology will be used on Centre Court and Court One at this year's championships, with existing Cyclops equipment used on other courts.
For a ground pass, it is usually necessary to join the queue several hours before the grounds open. For a show court ticket, many people choose to queue overnight to maximise their chances of being able to purchase a ticket for Centre, No.1 or No.2 Court.
OR, one can simply head down the road to the pub just beyond the entrance, and for a couple of bob more, simply buy a day based debenture ticket offering entrance to the Lounges.
Others may enjoy the overnight queue but I'll spend a bit more and have a better time, me thinks.
Best, Dave

It's the most wonderful time of the year....
Ah, Wimbleton! (as David Letterman often says)
On the mens side it's either Federer or The Guy Who Finally Beats Federer. Unless he has a really bad day early on to some unknown (probably from Russia), I think it'll be Federer. I don't think any of the others can beat him in the late rounds. He'll either suffer a Nancy Kerrigan-type attack or, most likely, age his way out of invincibility.
With the women I guess it's whoever grunts the loudest (thank you Monica Seles ). Though I think Venus Williams and that Mauresmo are too much like guys, and the last thing that game needs is to be wrecked by the hard-serve/no-real-return syndrome. If they're determined to go in that direction then I say make them play 5 sets.
Halle, Germany (Sports Network) - World No. 1 Roger Federer withdrew from this week's ATP tournament on Monday.
Federer announced that he would sideline himself to avoid the risk of injury after his loss to Rafael Nadal in Sunday's French Open final.
"In an attempt to prevent injury after the long final in Paris, I cannot defend my title at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle," Federer said in a release. "I look forward to returning in 2008."
