Question Connecting a Sony Vaio VGF-AP1L and Sony DSC W1 camera

Evening all,

Afraid I have a problem that should be easy to fix. I've got a Sony Vaio VGF-AP1L and a Sony DSC W1 camera and was told I can connect them directly so when away travelling I can store photos on the Vaio. However I can't seem to get them to recognise eachother.

I can't find the 'Operating Instructions' with my Vaio manuals, only the quick start manual and there don't seem to be any VGF series manuals to download on here.

Many Thanks in advance,
Fraser

(PS. Cross posted in TT because I am going away tomorrow and a fairly sharpish answer would be much much appreciated)

It's not compatible with the W1. These are the only camera models that work with it:

PCG-K23
PCG-K25
PCG-K27
PCG-TR3A
PCG-TR3AP2
PCG-TR5AP
PCV-RS620G
PCV-RS630G
PCV-RS720G
VGC-RA710G
VGC-RA810G
VGC-RA820G
VGC-RA826G
VGC-RA828G
VGN-A160
VGN-A190
VGN-S150

It's not impossible that the new firmware (out December 21st, but in true sony form still not available) might change things, but otherwise it seems like you've been duped by the sales person.

It appears I could get them to direct connect without the need for a computer

The instructions appeared as if by magic! Finally worked it out after the trip in which the use of the device to store photos would be useful!

Cheers
