Proof positive that Ron has absolutely no knowledge of early American history.
What you have done is provide support for my argument that airport security should be the exclusive province of law enforcement officers, the overwhelming majority of whom understand the constitutional limits on government power as well as any lawyer. When security is left to ill-educated and untrained amateurs, who are given what, in their minds, is unlimited authority "to keep us safe," abuses can, and frequently do, result, with no increase in safety.
We should seriously consider compiling a list of TSORon's "greatest hits" - his top 10 most egregiously incorrect assertions of law, and post them over at PV to see what Blogger Bob thinks of it.

Does the internet have that much bandwidth?

Excuse me stewardess, I speak jive.
I am curious. Could you give me an example of what you consider to be a "legitimate question" that you might ask as part of the administrative search procedure?

Actually, I'm almost surprised that no one from TSA HQ has tried to track him down and advise him, as some of his fellow TSOs have done here, to keep his fingers off the keyboard.

Probably because he's doing exactly what HQ wants.

I was thinking of question relating to how to open something or in which compartment something suspicious might be, both of which are aimed at speeding things up, but produce verifyable answers.
Your example is actually quite interesting. Although indeed routine and necessary, if the bag in question has been determined to have some item that is prohibited (e.g., a gun), answering it could be incriminating!
+1
I guess I'm not the only one that was in class that day.
You may have been in class, but you weren't paying attention.

In the United States, Sovereignty resides in the people, who act through the organs established by the Constitution. -- Chisholm v. Georgia, 2 Dall 419, 471; Penhallow v. Doane's Administrators, 3 Dall 54, 93; McCullock v. Maryland, 4 Wheat 316, 404, 405; Yick Yo Hopkins, 118 U.S. 356, 370.
When you say "the Constitution is not the only law, it is the basis for our laws," you demonstrate an appalling lack of understanding about the form and function of the Constitution. The laws that govern our daily life flow from the authority set out in the Constitution. None of the words in the Constitution are without force and effect, except those superseded by amendments, unless such amendments are repealed. Except for the statement of purpose in the preamble, every word was intended by the Framers to be legally normative, and not just advisory, declaratory, aspirational, or exhortatory.
Yes, it is "based on other laws, laws from other nations and other times," but those other documents have limited precedential value. When Congress writes a law, they don't check to see if it comports with the Magna Carta.

As long as they do it when they are not working or using TSA computers, you can't tell an employee what to do during non-work hours.
