“Are conservative talk-show hosts eager to go on the attack, after years of defending Bush?” asks the Louisville Courier-Journal’s Larry Muhammad. The answer is clearly yes.
Barack Obama has not yet taken office, and Rush Limbaugh is already rooting for his failure. On his radio show last Friday, Limbaugh said, “I disagree fervently with the people on our [Republican] side of the aisle who have caved and who say, ‘Well, I hope he succeeds.’”
Limbaugh told his listeners that he was asked by “a major American print publication” to offer a 400-word statement explaining his “hope for the Obama presidency.” He responded:
So I’m thinking of replying to the guy, “Okay, I’ll send you a response, but I don’t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.” (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here’s the point. Everybody thinks it’s outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, “Oh, you can’t do that.” Why not? Why is it any different, what’s new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what’s gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don’t care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it.
Of course, if Limbaugh's prayers are answered, our nation will have slipped even further into the abyss, people will lose even more money in the stock market, and who knows, civil war could break out.

What he's doing is underlying his "I hope he fails" with I hope liberalism fails...he will snipe back that he wants his country to succeed in spite of liberalism...while I think his views are pathetic, disturbing, possibly dangerous, he is not dumb. This will bring more attention to him, which is exactly what he wants...what a jack ...!
Of course he hopes Obama fails. If Obama succeeds, then pompous windbag has nothing to rant and gripe about all the time (well, he could devolve into racist diatribes, but those aside...)
So he needs Obama to fail for his own success to continue. This guy of course is the same one who screams about how drug users should be locked in prison, etc., yet blithely uses drugs himself. He cares only about his own success and would be happy for everything else to to go hell so long as he's happy.

Precisely. Obama is a threat to Rush. A big threat.

Part of it is because Obama doesn't do what Rush capitalizes on so well, which is political slime. Remember, Rush got big during Clinton's terms by playing off of the scandals during that era. While I have been mildly disappointed in the direction Obama seems to be going, I have seen nothing so far to indicate that Obama will be scandal-prone.

Yup. Obama has stayed above all that crap. I expect that to continue.
Anyone who thinks that failure is a good idea given the current world situation is an idiot - even if it was GWB making the speech now I would want him to succeed because the alternative is too awful to contemplate

Now that he's been proven to be correct, isn't it time to seat Al Franken (athor of Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot) in the Senate?
